State of the Union Address
i've never watched an entire address. President Obama is good at delivering speeches, though. he must've aced Public Speaking 101.
i saw Democratic strategist Paul Begala on The Colbert Report report last night. he suggested that Obama go on the attack and slam the Republican party for the economic philosophies and policy decisions that all led up to current problems. if that happens, i don't know whether it would shed a poor light on Dems as vindictive finger-pointers, or rally his party to start exercising their majorities in the house and senate. either way, it's bound to be a good speech, and i'll watch until i'm too bored to stand it. plus, Jon Favreau, the director of speech writing, has been seeing Rashida Jones. and she is smoking hot. her being hot has nothing to do with the State of the Union Address, i just thought i would mention that. |
:p rant, since you brought up his supposed speech greatness/
Unless I'm forced to do so, I probably won't watch the entire address. I'll likely catch the "long story short" of it all or something. I actually hate the way he talks and delivers speeches. I wish more people (based on stuff I've heard other people say) had other reasons for being excited to watch this, such as...oh...wanting to stay informed about what any POTUS has to say. /rant over I hope he doesn't go on the attack. Bipartisanism is dumb and distracting enough. We have way too many things going on domestially (and internationally) to keep allowing such diversion tactics. Both Dems and Repubs suck. |
bipartisanism is dumb when nothing gets done. if the Dems squander their opportunity to implement (forcefully or not) the changes they've harped about for year, then they deserve every bit as much contempt as the people that have been trying to maintain the status quo.
so far, the great change so many hoped for has been the great fail. |
I think bipartisanism is dumb period. We'll see if Obama can get beyond bipartisanism to get closer to a more unified front (one of his many campaign promises) because the issues that need to be addressed aren't really contingent upon political party.
|
I'm much more likely to read a synopsis online. The state of the union is bound to be a lonnnnng speech, and I get lost in it. (Does that make me sound dense?)

State of the Union Addresses in general are like that. In all honestly most speechs by any political figure is like that.

op ur poll needs another option :p |
Choosing to not watch seems the be the smart thing to do, unless you want to watch all the democrats make googly eyes at Obama and listen to the constant stream of BS he seems to be spouting.
Snooze. I'm flipping to Toddlers and Tiaras. |
I'm watching it now. I guess I missed about 30 minutes of it. I had to convince myself to watch...now I'm being forced to watch until we're ready for the Redbox movie.
I caught it when my homies McCain, Lieberman, and them were standing and clapping. There were so many standing ovations that it was sickening. Politicians are so funny. The Repubs smiled and stood when Obama said "and if anyone knows how to address this health care issue, let me know...." LOL...it was cute. Obama is being Obama. He was a little sarcastic a few times including "that's how a budget is done *sniff sniff*" And catching the synopsis tomorrow would've lost the sarcasm. But, a lot of what he is saying is valuable in terms of the Federal spending freeze beginning in 2011 because, like he said, the government should be saving money just like tax payers are saving money now. Also, I was amused by "getting over the school yard talks of who's the toughest." |
Okay, Redbox, here I come.
"Support the troops when they come home..." Joe Biden has a really nice smile. Really nice. How you doing, Joe? :) |
Its like a trainwreck; I can't stop watching.
Holy awkwardness. When he made the comment about allowing people of other sexual orientations (or whatever PC jargon he spit out) to serve in the military and the camera panned to the military guys in the crowd-the only ones not cheering, clapping, standing....Yikes. |
Also, Nancy Pelosi's blinking is very distracting.
|
Trying to figure out a drinking game to the Obama's State of the Union. It's never going to be as fun as Bush's State of the Union.
What's wrong with Gays serving in the military? |
