Spring Rush at East Carolina?

I am a freshman at East Carolina, and after much consideration and almost a semester to make sure I started it off right, I have decided I want to go Greek.........Can someone help me out about rushing???? Is it better to rush in the fall or spring? I am new to all this, but am really looking forward to it- any help would be appriciated. I have a couple of sororities I am REALLY interested in (have talked with some of the sisters, overall seemingly great girls) but in the back of my mind, I am still a little concerned, with some of the negative things I have heard......hazing, harassment, cliquishness...........any advice would be GREAT!!!!!!East Carolina

I really think that it depends on your personalility if spring or formal is better for you.
During Formal recruitment you get to meet all the sororities, which can be great because you get a better feel of how you fit in within the panhellic system. Also you get a chance to met alot of great people and network. But it is also very stressful and very time consuming.
I personally perfer spring rush because it is more laid back and you get more face time with the sorority you are interested in. but it does have the disadvantge of not letting you meet all the groups.
But if you know that you are definatly interested in a certain group then go to the party and meet the sisters. You can always decide not to accept a bid if one is offered.
All of the sororities at ECU are great, and they each offer something special to the PNM's. I would not worry about hazing--it is against the law and all sororities policies. I have never understood why anyone would do something to hurt a person they are welcoming into their sisterhood.
Also within every group there are going to be some people that you have stronger bonds with that does not mean you sisterhood with any other member is less. Sorority sisters love and respect each sister even if they are not best friends.
Good luck

good advice

sounds like you have the lay of the land down and pretty well know what you want. i would definitely start in the spring and see where that lands you.
good luck.

Good answer KDGirlie!

As an alumna, I feel Spring is more relaxed and gives you the oppurtunity not to be in such a Rush.

Having a semester to stay on campus unattached to an organization allows you the oppurtunity to see each chapter in action before you have to decide where you are intrested.

The only negative is that not all chapters particiapte in Spring. Sometimes they all do and sometimes a few do. Call Panhellenic's Office to see when the info will be out. (252-328-4235)

Good Luck, keep us posted!

good luck

I'm glad you're going greek. Since you won't be required to go to all the houses for spring rush, you should go to as many as you can. :D
