Informal Recruitment Ideas

Hey!
So I'm the new recruitment and membership director officer in my sorority. We are a national social sorority, but we are not panhel. We are luck enough for panhel to recognize us at our university, but we still do not take part in formal recruitment.
I'm looking for ideas for recruitment ideas. We have a 2 week time span where we can have events. Our nationals delegates a theme to us every semester that we try to use to guide our activities. In the past our recruitment ideas have been rather lack-luster due to the fact that we don't have a house so everything takes place in buildings on campus.
Our theme this year is Fashion Week. So far I have one event loosely planned, which will be called "strutting your stuff on the dog walk". We will take the girls to a no kill animal shelter and walk the dogs while the owner cleans the dog pins and then get hot cocoa afterward to socialize and warm up.
I'm looking for ideas which will be active and fun and hopefully keep us out of the classrooms so that the girls can understand that our sorority activities are not all done in classrooms.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Someone mentioned a similar event earlier and I have to voice some of the same concerns. Have you cleared this with the shelter? Most reputable shelters require several hours of training for any volunteers to work with the animals. Also, there could be sisters/rushees who are allergic to animals or have a fear of them.

I know what you meant but I had to really really think about it for some reason.

I understand your concerns. I actually have talked to the shelter. I am also in a business fraternity and my pledge class did a dog walking as our community service event and it was a hit. There was even a boy from India who was terrified of dogs in my pledge class and the owner was very conscious of him and gave him a tame dog. He ended up not being afraid of dogs after the experience. Also, for those who aren't really dog people I thought that they could just go along for the walk; bonding and sisterhood time is part of it, so a walk through the park could be just the thing.

If you have any other ideas please add your input!

walking the dogs-what a cute idea!

would it work for you to have one night as a "beauty night" where all in attendance could make care packages for women in domestic violence shelters or for our military overseas? you could collect toiletries from hotels or maybe a local hotel would make a donation of their bath products for your cause. you could buy some inexpensive fabric, cut it in squares with pinking sheers and tie up an assortment of small shampoos, conditioners and body lotion in them.
