The Bow Tie

Nupes, I've always worn bow ties all through undergrad, and I still do. I only wear them with casual attire though, not with a suit or sport coat. For me, it's the whole Khaki, v-neck Hilfiger or Ralph sweater with a nice shirt underneath and a bow tie, and of course a nice pair of casual shoes. I guess seeing that our organization uses the "bow tie" as apart of our image, I'm just curious to know am I the only brother wearing them? I was the only one who wore them when I was in undergrad. Do any of you brothers wear them?

Nupe...I'm not a big fan of the bow tie... some brothers can pull them off. Some kats look like their trying to hard to be Nupes when they rock'em. Now I will def up my bow tie game for Centennial festivities next yr...but on a reg...nah!

I started wearing them my Freshman year before I pledged, but I don't why, I've always liked wearing them, but the Nupes at my chapter never did wear them. They liked them on me, but it still wasn't for them. I still wear them to this very day, but only with casual wear. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one with a suit. I'd look like one of those jokers on the street selling bean pies.http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gifhttp://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif

When I was in undergrad, I noticed that some members felt that once they joined, they automatically felt they were supposed to dress a certain way. I think that can be good and bad. It can be good, because if he was a horrible dresser before he pledged, maybe he just never had anyone to show him, but it can be bad, because if he was a neat dresser before (in his own way), he shouldn't change who he is because of a fraternity.

Phi, your post had me rotflmao!:D

Man it has been a while, but back to the topic.

I have worn them since high school it was my little unique thing. My grandfather turned me on to wearing them.

Here in Nashville, its about 50/50. But at the Klave your Bow Tie game better be right because mine will be.:D

Down south, bows are pretty big thing. I didnt know know to much about bow ties until i started my research as a prospect. I only knew you wore them for weddings and such but not a casual wear. I have to say now I own at LEAST 10.

I never wore bow ties in undergrad, but i have to say that in NC its a big thing. A lot of bruhs from the ME Province rock them real hard but no one from DG nor myself ever got into wearing them on the reg. Dont get me wrong, the bow tie thing is def hot, especially during a stroll or an event to sport it at.

Oh, I see now, Nupe. So it depends on the city. That makes sense though.

It depends on who makes you as a bruh too! My ADP made sure that the history of the bow tie was def respekted...one of the nicer lessons !

Yeah, I have quite a few too. I like matching the small accents with the color of the shirt.

Interesting. I guess it just depends on the chapter because my Dean never mentioned any of the history behind it while I was on line. I've always liked them, so I just started wearing them, but it was before I pledged Kappa. Nupes weren't wearing them at DZ so at the time I didn't know it was associated with the Fraternity.

G-Kue 1911 02-21-2010 01:20 PM

Mos Def depends on where you where made....also more of chapter history too...it was cool to learn!
