rush as a sophomore at KU?
Hi-
I'm currently a freshman who went through rush and dropped though, because I was cut from most houses because of my GPA. Now my GPA should be around a 3.5 and I'm wondering if I should do formal rush as a sophomore next fall. Is it harder for sophomores? How many get in? Is it common that sophomores rush at KU? Thanks! |
good for you for raising your gpa!! have you gotten involved with some campus orgs. and activities? the sororities will expect that you have done so.
i can't comment specifically on ku recruitment, as i am not familiar with it, but generally speaking, with a 3.5 , rushing as a sophomore, with one or two campus activities, having a good reputation, being sociable & friendly, being interested in what the sisters have to say, having recommendations to each chapter at ku, knowing members of each house and putting your best foot forward, you would maximize your chances. why not give it a try? you have nothing to lose-well, maybe the enrollment fee-and everything to gain. |
sarahsmilehawk did an entire recruitment story on her experience as a KU sophomore:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=97680 Although it doesn't speak to your "numbers" questions, it was very wellwritten and entertaining, as well as honest and enlightening. Her main points were: bring up your GPA (which you did!), have recs, and have an open mind. Since you are already on campus, it would be a huge asset if you can develop friendships with girls who are already in sororities. I know that sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't, but having girls "on the inside" who are pulling for you really helps. |
Have at least a 3.5.
2+ extracurricular activities (you may get away with 1-2 if you hold an office) Grades, followed by friends on good standing in their chapters (recs if applicable) will be the biggest factors. |
Thank you all so much for the feedback! I actually got a 3.65 and hoping to get higher next semester so woo hoo! I will definitely look into extracurriculars now.

Great job! There are many sophomores who have a very successful recruitment experience at KU. Good luck!

Go for it! As said before, many sophomores are successful in recruitment at KU.
