How to Answer this Question?
Hello ladies!
I’ve been checking out GreekChat as a guest for the past few days, and it seems as though many of you have some valuable information and insight for non-greeks like me. My reason for posting is this: My mother is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and I am not (though I am very interested). I have already received my undergraduate degree, and understand that as a graduate, I cannot solicit membership. To meet other members, I try to attend public events with my mom; however, when I first meet other members of her chapter, their first question to me is “When are you going to join?”, and I have no clue how to answer this question. I understand the meaning of discretion and how important it is, so I really don’t know how to answer the “when are you joining?” question without it coming off as presumptuous and running the risk of offending someone (and I wouldn’t want to offend anyone). I usually try to avoid answering this question for these reasons. I would really appreciate any tips/advice about this. Thanks in advance for your help! |
How about: "if and when I am deemed worthy by the members of this prestigious organization."
Of better yet, ask your Mom how to answer. |

My advice: trust your mama. Seriously. If you are really unsure, ask some of the members that you know IRL.
The rules are still the same folks. For those that need a refresher, see our P. O. W. |
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. members on GC do NOT discuss membership!!!
All the information you need to know about membership is on the International Website or on a need to know basis--meaning at this time, you do not need to know! There is no debate on this question... If there is non-compliance to this issue, we will close/delete the thread and report you to our International Headquarters for hazing. This thread will be closed. Thank you for your compliance! Happy Holidays! :) |
