Chi-O legacy or not??
 

I have a cousin who is planning on going through recruitment when she starts school next year. Depending on where she decides to go, she'll be going through recruitment in either fall or spring (most schools she applied to do it in the fall but her top choice does it in the spring). All of the schools she has been accepted to along with her top choice (which I have no doubt she'll be accepted to) have Chi-O chapters.

My question is concerning Chi-O and legacies. Our paternal grandmother was a member of Chi Omega at the University of Cincinnatti (she's no longer living, sadly). I was wondering, for my cousin's sake, does Chi-O consider granddaughters of alumnae to be legacies? Or does it only apply only to daughters and sisters?

I don't know if grandmothers count, but it might not hurt to mention it.

So basically she wouldn't be a "legacy", but since she does have a Chi-O relative she could still receive some form of special consideration during recruitment...thanks so much! That link pretty much answers my question

You people obviously aren't legacy to anything then. It is your grandparents, parents,siblings. It really doesn't matter though because if you are like you will become part of it even if you have never had a family member in college. Having anyone in your family or friends gives you knowledge of the organization which helps you join.

Legacy status is different in every organization. SOME sororities and fraternities recognize relatives other than grand/parents and siblings.

FOR a CHI OMEGA to be considered a legacy by our national standards it is ONLY A MOTHER OR SISTER. ask

Don't forget to read the fine print, people. To be in "good standing", you must keep up payment of your dues.

It actually is only a daughter or a sister. She should definitely mention her grandmother though! It can only help.

FYI - there are currently no national alumnae dues for Chi Omega.

Chi Omega recognizes sisters and daughters of Chi O's as legacies. However, as a Chi O recruitment chair, I can verify that having any family relation means something. Being "in good standing" means you had to have taken alumni status from the chapter (which requires you be paid up on active dues and made grades). You could not have depledged or deactivated and be in good standing.
