Teen Mom
Did anyone watch the series premiere of Teen Mom (the follow up of 16 and Pregnant) Tuesday night? I'm glad they brought the show back and was even more glad they chose to still follow Catelynn and Tyler even though they gave up their daughter.
Nothing too shocking I thought in the first episode, although I did :eek: when Catelynn and Tyler lied to the doctor and later said they still had unprotected sex. Way to not learn a lesson! |

I like this show because the girls aren't treated like second class citizens just because they are (at least some of them) young single moms, but at the same time they don't make it look easy. I do not believe it is at all productive to act like a girl should be ostracized just because she got pregnant, but shows DON'T show how hard it is to raise a child when the parent is a child herself. I also like that they show couples that stay together, couples that get married, a completely single mom, and one that has a sometimes strained relationship with the child's father. It's great when the relationship works out and both parents can be there for the baby, but my mom always reminded me that though not all men are pigs, some of them are, and counting on them to be helpful after the birth isn't always realistic. Some girls/women I know are under the impression having a baby will bring them together with their s/o and I know some who have ended up caring for their child all alone and it's a hard road. I don't know that I would be able to. |
Just now watching this.
I will admit that I'm surprised that either of the engaged couples are even together to this point. I honestly don't think either of the couples will actually get married. I'd be REALLY shocked if they do. I just don't see it happening. I am annoyed that Catelynn's family seems to treat her like crap based on her decision to place her baby for adoption. However, they are complete idiots if they are still having unprotected sex. If you're not protecting yourself, you must want another baby. Farrah seems to (naturally) still want to do normal teen things like go on dates all the time. However, it's hard to do everything your friends do when you have a kid. Then there's the one who says "I should've stayed in school." Yeah, that probably was a good idea instead of dropping out, getting engaged, and moving in with babydaddy. Sigh. It's all just kids raising kids. Sad. |
I like the show.
DUH @ the fact that they, and most of these kids, are still having unprotected sex. They are doing what most teens and adults people are doing, being reactive and not proactive. The likelihood of having a 2nd child out of wedlock is high for unwed parents. Part of it has to do with the idea that having a baby is less of a lesson learned and more of a "welp, I've done it before" that reduces the fear of being pregnant and having children out of wedlock. |
I like this show.

I like the show, though. The only 16 and pregnant episode I saw was the one where the girl and guy gave up their child. It's interesting to see how their families are still treating them after that. It's fairly obvious that they love her, though. |

As for socioeconomic status, mothers who were young mothers and/or single mothers, and living in areas where out of wedlock births is the norm, that's the "generational curse" that we talk about when we discuss generational poverty/the cycle of poverty. |
I just watched this show last night and really enjoyed it..I also enjoyed 16 and Pregnant.
Ive only seen last night's ep so Im guessing Ebony (I think thats what her name was..the girl with the Air Force bf) and the other girl (totally forgot her name) who's son had a liver problem chose not to be on the show? |

I absolutely loved this show. I'm a single mom and they REALLY did a great job of giving the public an honest glimpse into the life of young parents. I hope they do another season.
By the way, I hate Ryan too. He reminds me of my daughter's father about a year ago. I hope that eventually Ryan will grow up and become a larger part of his son's life. Macy has a LONG road ahead-- men like that don't change easily or very quickly. But at the same time, they're usually a**holes before the baby... so I can't help but wonder what their relationship was like before Bentley. |
