Philanthropy Day craft ideas
I'm the incoming president of Beta Delta and my VP Recruitment and I are considering changing the craft we do during the Philanthropy round of formal recruitment. For ages we've had the girls bead purple and black bracelets that we're supposed to hand out during October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but since I've been here, we've never actually handed them out.
I guess one option would be to make an effort to actually publicize Domestic Violence Awareness Month and hand them out, but we would really like to do something that could go directly to help the local women's shelter. An idea that our national consultant had was to make mini "diaper cakes" to give to women with infants that come to the shelter, but I think that would be too expensive (our inter-sorority council limits the amount we can spend each day). Another idea was to stuff backpacks with school supplies for the kids at the shelter. But yet again, it would just be an issue of money. Any ideas of philanthropy day crafts that take less than 45 minutes and don't cost that much would be appreciated! |
Something my chapter did was that we had the girls decorate bags full of arts and craft supplies. The bags could be decorated however they wanted, and they also included a little note. Those bags were given to the local women's shelter to hand out to the children. That way, we could honor both our fine arts heritage and our support of victims of domestic violence.
BTW: Welcome to GC, and congratulations on your Presidency! I'm just ending my term as VP Intellectual Development and starting my term as VP CRS. |
I'm about to start my 2nd term as VP Recruitment and two years ago when I was CRIC and Philanthropy we started decorating purple shirts with fabric pens for teddy bears. We then gave the bears to our local shelter for children. I'm a little biased, but I think it worked perfectly! It was relatively inexpensive (you can buy the bears wholesale) and I think it was the perfect craft to allow PNM's and Actives to talk too.

We bought some purple and white fabric, cut it into squares, and had PNMs and actives use puffy paint to decorate them. For our Domestic Violence Awareness Walk, we sewed the decorated fabric and the purple fabric together to make a quilt. It was a lot of fun and not too expensive. After the walk, we gave the quilt to our local DOVE Shelter
