"Rush" ad on Greek Chat

Just saw the ad by liquidblue.com here on Greek Chat for their t-shirts...specifically, for the band "Rush!"

Hope that won't turn into an NPC "Recruitment" violation, not using the correct terminology and all.

LOL

I can't comment for NPC, but I don't really see a problem with it. What ever you call it, rushing, pledging, new member intake, it's all the same. Most people know the intake process as pledging or rushing, which isn't the right terminology. Similarly, Delta Chi calls it's new candidates for membership 'Associate Members'. AMs have voting rights and attend all meetings (minus ritualistic ones) but since my campus' culture is what it is, it saves a lot of time referring to them as pledges in front of non-Greeks. Both the actives and AMs know they are different than any other new member at the XYZ house, and know it's for making explaining to non-Greeks.

Well, they're Canadian and they do things differently up there anyway. LOL. In all seriousness, if someone actually got cited for saying rush instead of recruitment and had to pay a fine, Panhel has way too much freaking time on their hands.

Though this is neither here nor there, this is not true in all chapters, just to clarify.

I was trying to explain that certain terms, like pledging or rushing aren't the preferred vocabulary, but if you tell someone that you're pledging the XYZ house, they'll understand a lot quicker than if you say 'I'm currently in the new member intake process for the Xi Upsilon Zeta house.'

After re-reading my post I can see it isn't clear what I was trying to articulate.

Interesting, it must have just been the way my colony was set up. Have you seen more chapters with AMs that can vote versus chapters that don't allow AM voting?

WOW - missed it twice. Hehe.
