spring rush as a transfer?

I am going to be transferring to a large school, with a big greek life next semester of my freshman year. I know that they already held their informal recruitment, so I have missed out on that. My question is how can I find out which chapters will be participating in spring rush this year? I know of a few I may be interested in, would it be okay to email the vp with a letter of interest? Telling them why and how I am interested in their chapter? Or is this something unheard of that would get me shot down immediately? I know I could also wait until my soph. year to go through formal, but I am worried about being a sophomore then. I just want to go about this the best possible way, and hopefully become a member of a sorority.

I know that something like this depends on the school.

At some schools, chapters openly advertise informal events and don't mind if you contact them.

At others, informal may be invite-only and not advertised, so it would not be a good idea to contact them.

Even if it is considered ok to contact a sorority, I think a letter of interest may be a bit much.

Perhaps your Greek Life office may know more about ow to go about it.

I'm confused. You said you missed informal recruitment that was held in the fall. Normally, that means Formal recruitment would be held in the spring Normally, all chapters participate in Formal Recruitment (unless its one of those schools that doesn't do formal at all).

You should check with the Greek Life office at your new school to find out more information.
