The Value of Lifetime Membership
Now and then, I hear about people questioning the value of Alumnae Associations, or allowing one person keep them from enjoying the benefits of an Alumnae Association. I thought we could share the benefits here.
As you know, my mother died suddenly two weeks ago today. I had moved in with her after her last heart attack (almost 6 years ago) (yes, I kept my own house!), and in all that time, there were only 25 nights we weren't in the same house or hotel. Obviously, I have this huge void that needs to be filled by more than the boy (33girl met him; he does exist). I've been donating items or money to the local chapter, and of course, kept up my AA membership over the years, but I was thrilled to get an invitation to see the newly remodeled ADPi Suite! One of the alumnae who has always been special to me went with me, and we had a lovely time! The Alpha Iota ladies were so poised & gracious, and seeing the other alumnae and mothers (and the suite!) was so much fun. It really did more therapy for me than I had any idea, even if I did go home and say, "Oh, Mama, you should see how beautiful the suite is now!" Anyhow, I hope everyone else - in every sorority - has the same great experience. Trust me, ADPi is for a lifetime - and may be your lifeline at some point in time. |
