Official Jewelry designs too generic?
Hey ladies -
I just received my copy of the magazine in the mail (yay!) and I'm dismayed that the back page display of official jewelry has not one but three items that have a diamond instead of a kite shape. Does this bother anyone else? I understand that symmetrical designs are probably easier to make (and re-purpose for our Kappa Delta panhellenic sisters, in a pinch), but, well, that shape is meaningless to us! Has anyone else noticed this? I would like to invest in some Theta jewelry and support the fraternity at the same time, but I'd like it to be a little more unique, I guess. Would love to hear your thoughts! |
Which official jewelry magazine is it? I ordered something really lovely from Phi Mu's Carnation Collection -- a diamond quatrefoil ring. It is completely different than anything I've ever had before and it doesn't scream "sorority"-- I love that as an alumna, I can wear it every day. Only a Phi Mu would recognize its significance while the rest of the world sees it as a unique and beautiful piece of jewelry.
Edit: It's been a while since I've been on GC... I had clicked on this thread from the main page thinking it was in the general "greeklife" forum, but now I see it is in the Theta forum! Of course it would be the Theta official jewelry magazine. :) Sorry to crash!!! |
I agree totally about the unimaginative jewelry designs.
I.Want.Kites. There is only one charm on the HJGreek jewelry page that resembles a kite, with a tail; it has a "theta" symbol at the end. And while I'm on the subject, why can't the badge have more of a tail? There is so much that can be done with kites... sigh. Sorry for the memory lapse (mebbe dating myself here), but what happened to the Pansy Peddler? |
The Pansy Peddler was a retail establishment operated within HQ and by HQ staff. It was very time consuming as well as space consuming within our HQ building. Therefore, we began licensing our logos and trademarks out to trusted vendors a few years ago which was a smart financial decision.
The badge was designed as you know by our Founders and has been the same since. That said, I don't like the diamond stuff on the back of the magazine either. I'm sure the official jeweler would be interested in your feedback. |
Thanks, Amy, for the update on Pansy Peddler. Memory doesn't always serve well.
I'm just wishing for a little more "tail" on the kite shape... have seen some of the very very old (non standard?) badges and pledge pins, and they definitely had a pronounced kite shape. |
The Dyer badges do have elongated points. HQ can tell you how to purchase one of those. As I understand it, they are made by one jeweler in Indiana but they are expensive!

Amen sisters. I DETEST those non-theta items being marketed to us as 'kites' and 'pansies'. Hello, they're diamonds and violets already!!
There are quite a few jewelry items offered by Herff Jones (sp?) that are not on the back of the magazine, but none are unique or innovative by any means. |
