Transferring schools

I am currently looking to transfer schools. However, Greek Life is a huge part of my life and would really like to continue it if I were to transfer. How would I be able to affiliate with my sorority at a different school and are most chapters usually willing to let transfer students affiliate?

Everyone's affiliation processes are different. Your best bet is to speak with your chapter president or advisor.

Tips on affiliating with a new chapter/transfering:

*Be sure that you are FULLY aware of the transfer policies of the sorority and the chapter. There are some chapters that (for whatever reason) just can't take on transfers. Be sure you know their policy.

*Make contact with the new chapter WELL BEFORE you transfer. It's hard to make time to meet a transfer when they just contact you when they get to the school. You need to be communicating with them before you actually get there.

*Be sure that you are in GOOD standing and your paperwork is in order. So many times girls find out that their transfer can't be approved because they owe money or are otherwise in bad standing with the sorority.

*Be accommodating. Chapters are very busy this time of year, so don't be alarmed if the Pres. or VP takes awhile to get back to you about possibly coming over and getting acquainted. Don't get offended.

*Understand that every school is different. When you do get a chance to meet with this chapter, don't start going on and on about "Well in MY chapter, we did blah blah blah..."

*Give them a chance. If you don't immediately hit it off at the first meeting, it's ok. If this is a huge chapter, it may take awhile.

*It's okay if you for whatever reason feel like you don't fit. You aren't required to affiliate, and if you feel like you don't fit in with them at all, it's ok not to.

Hey, this is a great question! I just transferred this year and the school I transferred to luckily had a chapter of the sorority I am in! Like everyone else says it is different for each sorority. What I did was send an e-mail to the president of the chapter at my new school, it did take her a while to get back but it was during the summer and not everyone always checks their e-mail during the summer and she was on Co-Op so she was busy! So my point is don't be discouraged if the person you e-mail doesn't get back to you right away. However, if a significant amount of time has gone by then it is okay to send a nice e-mail just kinda re-introducing yourself and checking to see if they got the e-mail sometimes things happen and it might have gone to her spam box and got deleted or something who knows?! So after talking to the president I had to fill out a paper through national basically telling them when I was inducted my old chapter the chapter I was transferring to and basic information like that. It was a pretty simple process! Some things to keep in mind are, just because it is the same sorority doesn't mean the girls will be the same as the girls at your old school. I came from a smaller chapter into a much larger chapter and the girls are all very different but of course have all been pretty welcoming! I did get a few strange looks from girls who didnt know who I was but saw me wearing "their" letters on campus but as soon as I introduced myself and they realized I am a transfer they were all very welcoming! Another thing is the president at my new chapter offered for me to go through new member education again if I want (not forcing me to!) just so I can sort of learn how they as a chapter do things and learn their local history so that may be an option for you, if the president doesn't offer you can probably ask if that is something you are interested in doing. I hope this helps you out a little! Feel free to ask me any questions you have!
