Bid to Part Time Student
 

Can someone help me understand a little more NPC rules. Can bids be given out to part time students and if a bid is given out and they are brought into standards can they be terminiated for being a part time student?

I don't know about NPC, but Bama's Panhellenic specifically states in their Rules that to be eligible a PNM must be a full time enrolled student at the University. If I'm not mistaken that is defined as at least 12 hours.

I'm not sure if this is an NPC rule, but I believe that all members of the NPC each have a rule that members must be full-time students.

You have to be a full time student (whatever that is considered at your university) to get a bid in the first place.

There shouldn't be any "being brought into standards" as the part time status should have been discovered during pledging, before initiation. You can't be terminated if you are not officially a member. You will simply be dropped from pledgeship. (I think saying "terminated" in that situation is a bit much.) Whether the sorority will give you a bid the next semester if you get up to full time status is up to them.

If you drop to part time status in your credits after having been a full time student, you may have to become inactive, take special status or surrender your membership/self-terminate. Or you may be able to be a regular member. Each sorority handles it differently - check with your national HQ if you have any questions.

I'm doing recruitment right now, and they told us no problem if we were part time... a few of us are and all of us have extenuating circumstances that don't involve dropped classes etc.

NPC regulations state: A woman must be a regularly matriculated student in the institution to be eligible to participate in membership recruitment.

I supposed that the institution determines what is "regularly matriculated." However, each NPC member group may have their own requirements. Delta Gamma requuires that you be "full time" - whatever number of hours that may be at the particular institution.

Care to share what school needs to speak with their area NPC advisor?

a few years ago at the school where i advise, the university allowed some students who were enrolled at the school as what we considered part-time to rush. the ruling was that all of these girls were taking some of their classes at the university, some at a nearby community college , which combined gave them the minimum required hours and were living on campus, so that we should consider them full time.

not saying this is correct, but maybe the op's is a similar circumstance?

i'm not really comfortable with sharing, since i was released and i don't want anything to roll back to me (considering i don't really know the rules ofhow NPC works, hehe) if something goes down for them because i'm still a possible for COB... i hope you understand.

my situation though was that the school didn't allow me to enroll for the full credits needed, because i was coming into school after a year off. it was sort of bullcrap on the school, because their reasoning was that i would benefit from easing into school rather than going full board, as this is a policy (a note: i have a diploma done in full from a college, and in canada, where i am, a college diploma is not even on the same level as a university degree).

Oh, didn't realize you were in Canada. The school typically doesn't have their hands in things as much there where Greeks are concerned. This is probably how you "slipped by." (Not your fault at all.)
