AEPi Closes Chapter at Virginia

Awhile ago, exlurker sent me a story about Alpha Epsilon Pi closing its chapter at Virginia. We decided to sit on the story until we could get more information, mainly due to members of the chapter alleging that they were being closed for not being "Jewish" enough. We wanted to get more information so that this wouldn't become a "DePauw/DZ" type of rumor and speculation. Other than the chapter being listed as closed on AEPi's website, I haven't found anything from AEPi.

A few weeks ago, Virginia's paper, The Cavalier Daily, carried a story that states that AEPi did a membership review and only invited back about half of the current pledge class. All of the pledge class declined their bids and are attempting to start a chapter of Kappa Delta Rho.

When exlurker first brought this to my attention, I remembered that we had had a poster who talked about his chapter being threatened by his national for not fitting their original idea. I don't know if it the same chapter or not.

^^^ Lane, you need to reformat your links. You have "http://" twice in each link, which keeps them from working properly.

Not to be picky, but our newspaper is "The Cavalier Daily" (or the "Cav Daily"), not The Cavalier.

This is really unfortunate for AEPi; I would hate to have gone through pledging only to find out that it was essentially for nil. The stories floating around Grounds seem to think that the closing was due to hazing and disrespect for the house, but I'm in no position to say for sure.

Also, it was announced last night that the Virginia chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SPE) has lost its charter. Again, hazing seems the be the accepted reason.
