Sorors, I need help!!!!
Between school and work, I haven't had the time to get on here and chat with you ladies, but I need your help.
I am a Program Coordinator for a Science Enrichment program at a middle school, and I have given the teens in the prog the task of researching African American Inventors and Inventions. Little did I know that there is little to no info on blacks who contributed in science in this way b/c we were oftentimes denied the opportunity to get our inventions patented, sooooo guess who stole our ideas and got credit for them:confused: If any of you know of good, resourceful journals, websites, or books we can use PLEASE LET ME KNOW...post here or e mail me ChaoticRed@greekchat.com......Oooo-Ooooop |
Soror, check out the Delta Spotlight on the national site. A soror is featured in a book about AA female scientists and inventors.
Also try the local AA history museum or AA studies dept at local universities. I ran across a site about AA inventors but I have to locate it again! |
There is a lot of information on the Intenet- a basic search on African American Inventors will yield great results with most search engines - while it is true that many of us do not hold patents, there is still a lot of data out there. There are two that we use with our Delta Academy on a regular basis:
www.inventorsmuseum.com/africanam.htm and www.inventions-express.com You might also want to check with a local college or university, especially if they have a minority engineering or science office. Those staff people tend to be advocates for the field and have tons of info. Good Luck! |

There's a post in the Zeta Phi Beta forum about this subject, check it out.
