penn state chapter?

no its not. my friend is in agd at another school and was saying how one of our high school teachers was in agd at penn state so i was curious to what happened to it. i actually didn't even get a chance to rush. i would have loved to have rushed.
i missed out freshman year because i had a job that didn't allow me the time off for penn state recruitment (it's like two weeks long) and then i joined a service sorority but i do not get a sisterhood experience out of it. it is completely club-like to me....but it's not an associate chapter of our panhel, so I decided I'd do formal recruitment this fall.
Well then our chapter was asked to join as an associate chapter and so I waited til after we were SUPPOSED to vote to sign up for recruitment...when we didn't vote when we were going to, I didn't sign up because I knew I couldn't do both. Then that next chapter our president who apparently didnt do her homework in the first place said we couldnt join panhel because of their bylaws and that we wouldnt be voting.
At this point, it was too late to sign up for recruitment. In the end I really screwed myself over by not just signing up, but $40 being thrown away if our service org did join is just a bit much money for a college student, however I am still upset our president knew about the bylaw thing by the end of the week and I could have signed up.
That is my difficult situation and why things are not working out for me. I am still incredibly hopeful that I will get a chance in the spring, but here it is only informal in spring and not all chapters participate....so I'm kinda stuck :-/

So you couldn't rush because you thought your service group was going to become an assoc. member? That sounds like a tough situation. How many chapters are doing spring recruitment? Do alot of them participate every year? I mean, with THAT many chapters, I'm sure you'd have quite a few options for spring.

For some reason I thought Penn State's formal recruitment was in the spring. I could be wrong, though.

it was a super tough situation. i talked to my roommates about it like every night trying to figure out some way to get around it and in the end didn't sign up and regret it completely.
I'm gonna look at my options in spring for sure....but yeah formal is def in the fall they don't do formal in spring at all...
I also kind of wanted to look into maybe snap bidding but i dont really know anything about it.

And im sorry to the AGDs that your a thread wondering about your sorority changed in to my situation that doesn't even involve you! i dont know how to move it or i would...

Snap bidding is part of formal recruitment, so you can't look into it now anyway.

i see.
i heard that you didnt have to do formal for it here though.... thanks for explaining.
i'm just gonna keep trying to find a way

Snap bidding is the same everywhere.

Whoever told you that is confusing informal/COB with snap bidding.

You cannot get a snap bid without participating in recruitment because it is part of bid matching.

gotcha. thanks!

No, it's in the fall, just not right away in the fall.

You might be confusing snap bidding with open bidding. As far as how you receive your bid it's pretty much the same, just different terminology.

And again to the OP - I have the feeling that it doesn't matter a bit if your service sorority would have become an associate member - had you gone through NPC rush & gotten a bid, you would have probably ended up having to choose one or the other.

nittanygirl 09-21-2009 11:13 PM

I'm pretty sure I would have had to choose too, but I could not choose this semester b/c i would have to wait til next to disaffil. from my service org
