Sorority Scavenger hunt
 

Hi!!
My chapter wants to have a scavenger hunt, and I'm supposed to plan it. I need some good ideas for the list!! Any suggestions please?

Is this for the entire sorority chapter to participate in?

I would discourage you from having a scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunts are often found on lists of activities that are considered hazing. Scavenger hunts may be good intentioned and fun, but its an activity best avoided.

That's why I was asking if it was for the entire chapter to participate in. I think it will only be considered hazing if only a certain group, like NM or new sisters, had to do it.

I just wanted to do something where we could all hang out together. Like take a picture with the school logo and stuff like that. I'm just not good at coming up with it...

No, sisters will be paired with new members. We want something we can ALL do as a chapter... Our founding day is coming, and we kinda wanted to do that. It sounded kinda fun.

is it a horrible idea? I thought that scavenger hunt with the sisters wasn't consider hazing... :(

look at your bylaws, ask whoever is in charge (ie your president or someone else or an advisor).

We did a scavenger hunt with the RAs on campus. We took different stuffed ACC Mascots around campus and had to take pictures with them in a variety of locations. You could have sisters carry around your sorority mascot and take pictures at certain locations on campus.

It's good that is not just new members doing it. Make sure it's a optional activity. To Keep it safe, don't do anything that's going to involve driving.

Even if you are a local, you should check with the University policies. Some universities also have hazing policies that include what they consider hazing.

In addition to being considered as hazing, it can also be a liability to have a scavenger hunt. Members could get hurt if they are racing around campus in vehicles. Also, depending on the items you want them to find, there could be other liability issues. It is just best not to have a scavenger hunt. If you need ideas on things to do with old and new members, try a board game night where the teams are made up of nm and actives. Or maybe have an aerobics class or go skating or bowling. Good luck!

You could also do a sorority history trivia night. Divide the group into two teams. Make sure each team has an equal mix of sisters and pledges.
If you do a scavenger hunt, make it a photo hunt and keep it on campus. Don't allow cars.
