Dusquene Greek Life

My sister's best friend is a new freshman at Dusquene University. She and my sister asked me which sororities she should look at for potential membership.

Of course I told them to look at all, but fall is Dusquene's informal recruitment so I thought giving her just a few houses to look at may get her better acclimated to the school, the Greek community and prepare her if she goes through in the spring.

Does anyone have any information on the history of Greek life there? Their website wasn't terribly helpful in terms of campus history. Also, any pointers on what Greek life is like there, since every campus is different.

Thanks!

From what I know, Greek Life is a very small part of Duquesne's campus. I feel like I heard about some fraternity drama a few years back.

I have a friend in law school there - she won't know much about Duquesne's undergrad but it'll be a start.

I should add that I went to Pitt and only for grad school so I know next to nothing about Duquesne's greek life myself.

While I didn't go to Duquesne, everyone I know who did went greek (except one).

My kinda-cousin didn't rush her freshman year, and all her friends did. Needless to say, she went greek her sophmore year. She absolutely loves it, and is able to keep up with a hard major, and more than one musical obligation.

There are seven great chapters at Duquense. Meet the Greeks was tonight and there will be more events this fall for Freshman. The Panhellenic community is really pushing service and living the mission of the University. The Greek Alumni area very strong at Duquense and have their own advisory board.

I hope she checks things out!

I know quite a few girls that go to Duquesne and are a part of Greek Life there, 1 is an Alpha Phi, 1 Alpha Gamma Delta, and 3 Zeta Tau Alpha's. From what I've heard from them(which is quite a bit), they really like the whole Greek Life experience expecially because Duquesne is in right on the hill of Pittsburgh (kind of in a busy spot) so it's provided a place and family for them. They also like how Pitt (Univ. of Pittsburgh) is really close and they told me they hangout with some of the fraternities and sororities from that college. Then there's the random yet fun trips out to Penn State (they said the greek life there is awesome!). I'm sure she'll figure out what she wants to do. Tell them to look at all the sororities, they'll never know what they'll like until they meet people from all of them!! Good luck to them!!!!
