baby shower

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. The problem I have is I'm throwing a baby shower for my best friend. I have never thrown a baby shower before and I will like some ideas on games, prizes and keepsake items. The theme that myself and two other ladies have come up with is Fairy Godmomma:) The idea is to put glitter in the invitations as fairy dust. And when it is time to open up the gifts the mother to be best friends (fairy godmomma) will say a little something on what they will teach the baby or wish the baby will have just like in the movie. If anyone have any ideas please let me know or if this fairy Godmomma idea is crazy let me know as well.

Thanks:)

I LOVE that idea! I threw a baby shower this past weekend--it was a couples shower though and we did a sort of italian restaurant theme with red checked table cloths, etc.

For fairy Godmomma you could string twinkle lights around the room-- gifts could be pretty candles wrapped in irridescent paper and tied with ribbons. I'd do everything in white and silver and pastels--very fairy like. :)

Good luck and have fun with it!!!

Been to several

I've been to so many baby showers, and I don't recall them having a theme, interesting. As for games, guess the expecting mothers weight, one who come closest wins a gift. Pass a roll of toilet paper around, each person tears off the amount they think will fit around the expecting mothers stomach, who comes closest without going over win a prize. First person to arrive wins a prize.
Safety pin or paper clip game. Who ever collects the most wins a prize. You collect by catching people crossing their legs.

I just went to my cousin's shower two weeks ago.

Game Ideas:

1) Piggybacking off of Special1920, you could have people collecting pins for saying a certain word (i.e. baby).

2) Baby bingo- have guests fill out blank bingo sheets with gifts they think the mother will receive. As the mom opens gifts, people cross out the gifts until someone says bingo.

3) Guess the meaning of different baby names.

4) Remove labels from baby food jars and have people guess the flavor either by sight, smell, or taste.

5) Have guests bring baby pictures and everyone tries to guess who's who.

A couple of games that havent been mentioned are:

1. Putting rice (uncooked) and small safety pins in a fairly small bowl. Then what you do is sit the person down in a chair, put the bowl that has the rice and safety pins in their lap, then have someone sit next to them holding an empty bowl. Blindfold the person holding the bowl with the rice & safety pins and the object of the game is for the person to ONLY grab the safety pins and place them in the empty bowl. You can do it for however long, but its usually only for one minute. Its not as easy as it seems, TRUST ME! ;)

2. Grap a bigger bowl than in game #1 and put a bunch of cotton balls in along with a wooden spoon. Have the person playing put it in their lap. Then get another bowl about the same size, but make sure its light in weight. Have the person place that bowl on top of their head. Then, for a minute's time, have them close their eyes and try to scoop up the cotton balls and put it inside the other bowl thats one their head. You could have someone sit next to the person to hold the bowl steady in her lap. This game is really funny because as the person scoops up the cotton balls, they think they have a lot on their spoon when they really dont because since cotton balls are so light, they cant tell whether they are putting any in the other bowl or not!! :)

3. Cut pieces of paper depending on how many guests you are expecting. On two of them write "mom" and on the other two write "baby". Of course you need to crumble them up so no one knows which one have "baby" or "mom" written on them. So after you have passed all of them out, ask who got the ones that say "baby" and "mom". Then, ask the "moms" to choose their partner ( it has to be a person who got "baby". After the partners are chosen, you will have two teams. One with mom and baby and the other with the other mom and baby. Have the moms sit in a chair and the babies sit on the mom's lap. Then give them a small baby bottle filled with coke and see who drinks it first! This game can be played the same way, but instead of bottles of coke, you can do jars of baby food. This one is actually funnier.

4. Another game could be to put several baby items on a tray, like a pacifer, bib, diaper, etc. and pass it around quickly just enough for everyone to get a glance at it. Then, have everyone write down what they remember seeing on the tray. The ones that has the most correct wins!

Hopefully now you have an idea of some games! :) I think having a theme is a good idea! If i think of a cute one i'll let you know, but the fairy one is really cute!!

Have fun!:)

I love you fairy godmomma idea. I've been to so many baby showers and I really don't recall any of them having a theme. Ex

Here are a fes games that I've played:

1. A variation of the safety pins. Every woman is given a clothes pin and told that she cannot cross her legs, at the knee or ankles. Whenever someone crosses her legs, whoever sees her first takes her clothes pin. The person with the most clothes pin at the end of the shower gets a prize.

2. The mother tells everyone what she plans to name the baby. Everyone takes guesses at how she plans to spell it. Whoever comes closest wins a prize. Obviously, it works better when the baby is going to have a non traditional name.

I like the fairy godmother theme. Here's a link to a website for baby showers, etc. : http://www.allaboutshowers.com.

It was very helpful when I was planning baby showers as well as my friends bridal showers. They have a vast array of games, etc.
Most of the games are already formatted, all you have to do is print them out. You can vary some of the games to better suit you.
