Phi Mu transfer Policy

Hello All! I have fairly recently decided after alot of thought and careful consideration that I will be leaving my current college and transfering to a new one next semester. I'm very excited about this; however, I'm leaving my sisters who I absolutely adore. My new school has a Phi Mu; however, and this makes things a little easier. I am currently in good standing and was wondering what our GLO's transfer policy is. I tried finding this on the phi mu website but came up short. Also, I asked around my chapter and got different answers some said Phi Mu's are Phi Mu's everywhere and we're just in if we want to affiliate, that is. Then I heard there was a reveal and vote process. I also heard we have to go through the pledge period again. Not really sure though and I just want to get my facts straight...lol...I just sent an email to the president of the chapter and their advisor and am awaiting an answer but I thought I would ask here rather than right off the bat talking to the new chapter. Thanks so much!

There is no pledge process again... What will happen is you must go meet the chapter and "hang out" with them for about a semester so they get to know you and you get to know them. After the semester is over (or before this depending on the chapter) they can choose to let you affiliate or not. If not, then you just go alum. At my school this happened several times since there are so many Phi Mu chapters in North Carolina. We would meet the girl and vote earlier than before the semester ended, that way she could participate in Charity Events, Socials, Recruitment and whatever else! I hope this helps...

If you read the "blueform" it clearly states what you need to do to transfer. I'm not sure if every chapter has a membership vote however. The blueform does say something along the lines of: if your new school has Phi Mu, you SHOULD transfer.

Now whether that means every girl should attempt to transfer, or if the chapter of transfer has no by-laws requiring a vote the chapter must take on a transfer, I don't know.

If you call HQ I know they will clarify everything for you though! They are very good (and nice) about those things. I've never had to call, but I know many who have.

My understanding back in the 1950s was that, if I transferred to a school that had a Phi Mu and did not affiliate, I would lose my membership. Somewhere in the 1980s, a Phi Mu friend did transfer, made no effort to affiliate, and nothing happened.
