Going "home" ...
This weekend my husband and I traveled back to College Station for the A&M vs. Baylor game. We went with a couple of my Alpha Phi sisters (Epsilon Omega deuteron chapter) and their husbands and dates.
(Wistful sigh...) It was such a wonderful experience to be in College Station again. Seeing the old sites...The old buildings...The old parking lots where I got all my tickets (ha ha!). Anyway, I felt quite nostalgic (and still do). I saw all those fresh young faces--new Aggies who have taken my place on campus--and felt a tinge of sadness. Or, perhaps, better stated, longing for the old days. I love my life now. I love my husband and all we have accomplished so far, but I guess I feel it would just be so nice to have the chance to relive those carefree days for just a little while. To see the faces of old friends. To walk into the sorority house and watch "Days of Our Lives" with all my sisters, while talking about boys, classes, etc... I was wondering if any of you all have gone back to your universities lately? How did you feel? Just curious... I'd love to hear your stories and thoughts... :) --AOE-- |
Hi, I am sorry for barging in on your site but I saw the words College Station and just had to say hi from a fellow aggie-
I graduated in 97 from vet school and went back one time in 98 and that is the last time I was there. When i see College Station on TV I really miss it and yes I would love to go back and relive all of my college days all over again (I have to stop or I will start tearing up!) K |
So nice to hear from a fellow Ag!
You're definitely not barging in! Welcome and thanks for the post! When were you at A&M? I'm Texas Aggie Fightin' Class of '94 ! :)
College Station has changed so much since I was there in the early--mid-90's. New buildings, tons of new restaurants, but our old hang out, The Tap was still there. My Alpha Phi sisters and I felt very happy to see the old house (at 1401 Athens), but sad because we couldn't go in. I lived there for three years and would have loved to have been able to truly "go home." (Another big, wistful sigh...) How things have changed in Greek Aggieland since I was there. No more Alpha Gam, no more Alpha Phi; and two new sororities! I hope the Aggie AXOs are doing great. I had a number of Alpha Chi friends and always thought the Aggie Alpha Chis were classy ladies. |
I hear you and have felt the exact same way. :)

Thanks for welcoming me and thank you for the compliments. I also would have graduated in 94 but received early acceptance to vet. school so I did not get an undergrad. degree. I finally graduated in 97. AXO is doing very well as far as I have heard. Is Aphi ever going to re-colonize? Is there anymore home games this year (I do not have a football schedule)? I know the UT game will be there but unfortunately I have to work (I am in emerg. vet. medicine and we have to work most holidays-yuk!!!)

I stumbled on this post while doing a search for "Baylor" but had to write and say that I totally feel the same way---and I thought I was the only one--whew!
I remember being in college dreaming about married life and how exciting the "real world" would be. These days I get nostalgic remembering all the good times in college. I miss having tons of close female friends that live right down the street--or across the hall. Don't get me wrong--I love being married---but a husband really can't replace a sorority sister :-) Unfortunately I haven't been able to find an active ADPi alumnae chapter in Northeast Houston. On the positive side, I teach highschool so I do get to re-live my college memories with my students and promote greek life :-) |
OMG I feel the same way. I went to Univ of Southern Cal and still live in Los Angeles, but don't get down to campus too often.
I was down there yesterday, taking care of some business at my bank (Still bank at USC's credit union despite having graduated 10 years ago)-- and everytime I am on campus-- I just feel like I want to scream I LOVE THIS SCHOOL. Its like, it looks the same, it smells the same, and I feel exactly as I did when I stepped onto campus for the very first time as a freshman. And I can never resist driving down the Row on my way back to the freeway and the Westside, and seeing all the new sorority and fraternity members--and remembering the days when those were MY friends and wishing I could do it all again! I love my life and all I have and have accomplished, but WOW did I have a good time in college! :D Amy |
