Morning Preference Event

Our university has recently changed the sorority recruitment schedule to where Preference Ceremonies are in the morning (deferred recruitment - January). Does anyone have any tips on what actives should wear? We normally wear black dresses, but we don't want it to look like a funeral!

You could wear dresses in your colors. The chapter I advise used to wear white, though, after a few years they started looking sloppy since they just wore their ritual whites which got wrinkled and dirty from constant use. I think if you wore black but added appropriate accessories, you could make it look nice but not funereal.

Actives at my school usually wore black but with accesories in their colors, or rhinestone jewelry.

I forgot to mention - it's deferred recruitment, so it will take place in the morning.

We had deferred recruitment with preference in the morning. Most groups wore all black. Perhaps all black helped us stay warm on the cold Pennsylvania winter morning!! If a black dress is styled right it doesn't have to look like funeral attire at all. A wrap style dress, knee length with heels comes to my mind.

Even though it is technically in the morning...you don't have to dress like it. It's not like you're going to be having your party in the middle of the yard. This is one of those "pretend it's nighttime" things - like them filming Letterman at 5 in the afternoon. So as far as that's concerned, I think black is entirely appropriate. Change it if you're sick of black, but I wouldn't let the time of day influence you.

The university I advise at will be having pref "night" starting at 11AM due to a conflict with a popular university-wide event. The chapter isn't changing anything. They are still coordinating in black dresses but are looking into getting black-out curtains for the windows. We anticipate this to be a one-year only change with pref night returning to the evening next year.

We have Pref in the morning as well, and we wear all white. We do clean white dresses and white shoes, and with the light pouring in the windows, it looks really great! Just make sure your decorations are similarly light-hued to prevent the sisters from looking like they walked into the wrong room.

A few years ago we had a pref day instead of night because a basketball game was that night. (It was also defered recruitment in January) Things were done as always and it worked just fine.

The chapters on my campus all usually wear black skirts and nice tops in their colors for pref (I/E zta does black skirts and pink tops, Alpha Sigs do black and red...) it looks really nice, and less "creepy-funeral-ritual". :)

I attended a school that held Pref in the morning and we once did a combo of black cocktail dresses and WHITE shoes/accessories and WHITE cocktail dresses with BLACK shoes/accessories (I think half of us did one and half the other).

It looked super cute and was a twist on the all black thing.
