More to Love

Okay, I realize everyone probably thinks I have NO LIFE because I enjoy watching such random shows. I have been watching this show, off and on. Do you think this is actually a good show or does it mock obese people?

Discuss.

I actually really like this show!! While the premise might be somewhat questionable, I think that not everybody has to look like a supermodel to be on t.v. I think most of these women are very pretty, and just because they might be bigger doesn't mean the show isn't just as entertaining to watch as something like the bachelor.

I don't think it mocks obesity at all, especially since we live in a society where the average woman isn't a size 00 (I'm not sure average size is 14 like the show says, but what do I know?)

tld221 08-11-2009 09:22 PM

im on the fence about this show. i dont know how long it has been on the air, but something doesnt feel right to me about it.

fat people date regular sized people, but theres no entertainment value in that.

als463 08-11-2009 09:33 PM

Yeah, there's this one girl (the Nanny) who cries about EVERYTHING....

I hate how he assumes that these girls were mocked all their lives, or they didn't go on many dates, or people didn't want to be their friends, all because they are heavy. I mean, did the casting call say, "If you are lonely, have never had many friends, were usually the butt of all jokes, etc, then you are our girl!" Just because someone wasn't a size 00 (like stated before) doesn't mean they were complete losers in high school. One of our most popular girls in my high school, who was head cheerleader was a heavier set girl. I just hate how he keeps making these assumptions.

Also, I hate to say this but, the one girl on here is a "Fitness Trainer" and she is on this show. While I'm sure heavier set people can do that job, I feel like for a show where being heavy is emphasized, it seems a bit of an oxymoron, at this point.

True, but Im sure the casting directors chose girls with that in mind - by taking note of the girls who leaned towards this stereotype. they cast the most self-depreciating, low-confidence, "OMG a man has never told me im pretty" women ever. and no man wants a chick lacking confidence - fat or regular sized.

Plus, listen to these chicks blabbering - the one who went on the horseback riding date just started sobbing about how shes never been able to open up to a man before, etc. then the girl before that (in the boat, at the seafood restaurant) is all like "he's giving me the best gift - hope."

ugh - every time Luke hugs them or kisses them or says something flattering, its waterworks and "OMGZ im falling for him."

theyre making not only fat women look sad, but women in general. if anything, it shows that these women are no different than regular sized women - theyre looking for validation through a man's approval.

[off feminist soapbox]

so the women who get sent home - they can't cry about being booted because theyre fat, right?
When i saw the "Fitness Trainer," my instinct was to think "is she supposed to be a mole?" mind you im just tuning in so im still feeling it out.

Hahahaha...when I said about the crying thing-I meant, the one girl, in general, cries like nobody's business...It's kind of sad.

You are right that everytime he says anything the least bit nice..it's like (wow, I'm so worthless and now this man is paying attention to me). It does make women, no matter what size, look a bit like they need a man to validate them. I agree with that. I wonder how he can possibly be attracted to women who are so self-loathing. I have to admit, this show def. holds my interest. I will be watching until the end.

Kristian??! OMG I hate her. The episode last night got on my nerves sooooo bad and then he picked her to stay!! I was a little pissed because her nonstop waterworks really bug me.

I don't know why I watch this - it's kind of fascinating in its sheer awfulness. The guy is creepy and sleazy, and the women are so pathetic ... I really hope a lot of this is vicious editing to make them all look worse than they are.

tld221 08-25-2009 09:41 PM

no one is watching this anymore with me.

Hey now...That's not true! I love this show! In fact, it kind of sucks that the girl who came out and said she "loved" him was sent home. I don't think Luke is fugly....sometimes, though-he is a bit cheesy.

These girls that keep complaining about having to be in swimsuits for Luke to see them...I mean, that would not be my issue. My issue would be that I was in a bathing suit for the whole world to see! I'm not saying I have issues like that but, many of these girls have very low self-esteem and it is shocking to me how one guy showing them a little bit of attention is enough for them to cry their eyes out and say that he is the "FIRST man" to ever treat them well. I find that hard to believe.

We have all dated a jerk or two, in life. Stop using your size as an excuse for dating a-holes all your life....

This show is great!

whatevs - she and the other girl who got sent home were all "i gotta tell Luke i love him or he's going to think i dont care."

and kristinia reminds me of a kid sister with a huge crush on her older brother's best friend. go somewhere with that. and the one time she was on the couch and it looked like she was touching herself. ok, thats me being immature but i giggled.

What makes these women think that they "have to" say "I love you" to Luke, in order to stay on the show? Luke does seem like a genuine guy and to be honest, it is hard to believe he would have that hard of a time finding a girl. It is a sad/ harsh reality that men can be ANY size and still get a cute girl, but girls aren't always that lucky.

I think heavy-set guys have it easier than heavy-set girls because lots of girls like guys with meat on their bones. I know that I am particularly into heavier guys (ambitious and successful-but, heavier) who can make me laugh. I would have no problem dating a heavier guy, but not all guys feel that way about girls. I wish they would stop putting it out there that these girls were the joke of their high school because high school is OVER! Move on!

When they did the prom, they assumed that these girls all didn't go. I guess it bugs me that we are supposed to believe that ALL of these girls had a bad childhood because of their weight. Who hasn't been picked on in elementary, junior high or high school for something? Even the most beautiful girls and most athletic guys were laughed about (probably behind their backs) regarding being "sluts" or "stupid jocks"...I think it is safe to say that college is a much better time than high school because you can re-invent yourself. These women need to realize that when they go to their 10 year reunion/ 20 year reunion...it won't be about how fat they looked in gym class-it will be about how successful or disappointing their lives are.

Why don't people realize that? When I go back to my high school reunion-I'm not looking to see who was the most popular or who was the poor kid...I care about what they have done SINCE high school, to make a difference in the world. They keep talking about how these girls were treated in high school...STOP IT!

Is she not also heavyset? If she is, where's the oxymoron?

This show is pathetic. All dating shows are pathetic, but this one is pathetic on a much more insecure and emotional level.

And did I hear the young lady correctly when she said the guy had a "hot body?" Yeah...I guess it's all relative and they are coming from a different frame of reference.
