ucf rush questions

I am rushing in the fall and never heard about rec letters until now. I thought I was ready and now I am starting to stress out. Do I need them for recruitment at UCF?

Go to Search and find other threads abot UCF there is a lot of them that should help you. That is what everyone is going to tell you to do. :]

First of all, take a breath!

I think you are a bit too late if you are going through recruitment this August. Isn't it in 2 weeks? (correct me if I am wrong those close to UCF)

These recs needed to be in much earlier.

I would make sure you have everything else in line. Be prepared and confident and put your best self forward. Good Luck!

If the chapter really wants you, believe me, their Rush Rec Chair and Board will scramble to get a rec written for you. Best thing to do is relax, smile, enjoy recruitment, and trust the process. It will all work out.

Just a note: This is not always the case at all. At schools like UCF, there are alot of PNMs and they cannot secure a rec for every PNM they want.

Not saying that they wont do it sometimes, but I wouldn't want PNMs to think that a sorority will always locate a rec for them.

Really, the best you can do at this point is let the chips fall where they may.

Unless you are familiar with the UCF campus, please refrain from giving out this general sweeping advice. At some schools it is NOT best to "relax, smile, and enjoy recruitment, and trust the process" if you don't have recs - and from what I've read on this site, UCF appears to be one of those schools.

To the OP, according to this thread:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=103834
letters of recommendation are good to have at UCF. It appears recruitment starts in 2 weeks, in which case I'm not sure if that is enough time to get letters of rec for all the chapters. I'm going to leave it to those who are familiar with UCF and/or the rec process to comment as to how to proceed from here. In the meantime, you should look at the stickied threads to read more about letters of rec and how people go about obtaining them.

you need them and you should work your hardest to secure recommendations in the few weeks that you have before recruitment begins. it is better to get them in under the wire, than to just blow it off and hope for the best. good luck.

Just wondering.....Forgive me if I sound ignorant (and I am in no way suggesting that the OP does not need recs). However, from what i understand, rush at UCF is not uber competitive. I could be wrong, so the OP should not take this as Gospel.

It is just that if you listen to the kids, they make UF and FSU sound like the competitive rushes here in Florida with no other school coming in at even a close second.

Based on what I have heard, it is competitive, but not to the extent of UF or FSU. For example, I've heard of transfers, sophs, and even juniors getting bids there (even though they get cut heavily), while you hear less of that at FSU or UF.

I think the main thing wth UCF is that the number of PNMs is increasing every year, which makes recs even more necessary.

Ocalagirl authored a thread about rushing at UCF - from the sounds of it, I would have considered it competitive, especially for the sororities that are housed. I tried to link but failed.

I am also thinking that there was a mom last year whose daughter went through recruitment at UCF and shared some of her story. As I recall, the cuts were brutal for her. (I always seem to remember the bad stuff....)

The thing to remember is that just because a school is smaller than the state's flagship school(s) or has (gasp!) campus owned housing, does not mean that the value of a rec is decreased.

I went to a small private school in Texas. Everyone will tell you about UTexas rush and that it is competitive. Even on these boards that is the school that everyone will reference (and with good reason) with regards to obtaining recs.

However, piddly ol' TCU, with its 5000 undergrads when i was there, had a "Recs are Mandatory" mentality. I do not know of a single woman who received a bid to a chapter that she did not have a rec to.

I know nothing of the system at UCF, but just want to caution anyone who assumes that just because a campus isn't "The Big School" that things are more relaxed with regards to recs. Not necessarily so.

I understand what you are saying, but the size of the school has nothing to do with this situation. I don't have hard numbers for you, but here in Florida the two biggest schools in terms of enrollment are UF and UCF (about 50k for these). FSU has a slightly lower enrollment (in the 40,000's I believe.)

Also, I believe the Florida legislature has designated UCF as one of the state's 3 flagships.

However, what you are saying may apply in the sense that UCF is new, compared to the other two. UF and FSU have been around since before 1900 and UCF was established in 1963. So, I guess, to reiterate what you said, don't assume recs are not important because of this statistic.

However, I really wasn't assuming anything in my post above. I was asking because I really didn't know the answer and was obviously under a very false impression.

Did Ocalagirl every post anything ever again? Or did she just fade away?

Just curious :)

Oh yes she sure did. She posted all over the site about how she made a huge mistake during recruitment (with the whole listing groups on her final card that she didn't even pref thing). She then went on to accuse GCers of sabotaging her recruitment (even though her stupidity did a good job of that).

She resolved that she was going to rush at another school but wasn't going to tell any of us which. Then she attempted to locate and buy sorority rituals. She also made alot of really unsmart posts here. I believe that really offended some sorority alumnae and they may or may nor have written no recs for her.

So when she got to her new school (which I believe was UNF), she was cut by everyone by the 3rd day.

PS: I'm really upset that peeps weren't QFPing back in the day so that you could see her posts in all their glory, lol.

Seriously, she said "I went to DEF, XYZ, and ABC for pref, but I didn't like them, so can I just put MN, BBQ, and CDO n my final list?"

We were all like "Yeah, if you don't want to get a bid."
