Question about disassociation

Hi, this is probably a really stupid question but I need to ask. I joined a sorority this past fall as a freshman at the univ of georgia but i decided i didn't like going to school their so i am transferring back home to buffalo, ny. i was wondering if i disassociated from the one i am in now if i could join a different one at home since they don't have the sorority i joined at UGA in buffalo? someone please please let me know. thanks!

Is your sorority a Panhellenic sorority?

If yes:

If you were initiated into your sorority at UGA, you MAY NOT join another NPC at any other school.

If you are initiated into a Panhellenic sorority you may NOT join another one. If it was a local sorority or one other than the 26 listed above, then you will have to ask the women in your sorority about their policies. Some people in this situation try to sneak around and join anyway thinking they won't get caught, but most do. Just because you move from Georgia to New York, that doesn't insure that you won't get caught. Instead of trying to join another sorority, why don't you see if the school you're going to has a chapter you can transfer to :)

In most cases, once you have been intiated into any social sorority, you will not be offered membership in any other.

And if you are unable to join another sorority (which is very likely), and you're a member of a national sorority, and there isn't a chapter located at your new school, you can always join a local alumnae chapter (assuming there is one in your area).
