Denver Recruitment
Hi, I did a search but could not find much. I have read on this site that for some schools recomendations are crucial, for some they are irrelevent and everything in between. I know that everyone has said that they could never hurt. I was just wondering if anyone knew the prevalence of their usage at the University of Denver. Thank you

I would say get them anyway. Maybe it will help. maybe not. But I don't see how it would hurt you.
|
I know, I know, I was just wondering how common they were. I'd just like to know. Also, does this school experience the freshmen advantage a little bit or a lot?

Recruitment at Denver is not all that competitive. There are currently 4 sororities there (not sure if AGD will be back on campus or not... which would make 5). I think obviously recommendations would help, but from my experience I don't believe they are too common. However, that being said, the average student at DU is quite accomplished both academically and activities-wise. Any type of advantage you can get to stand out above the crowd would help.
I know that the Denver Area Panhellenic (http://www.denverareapanhellenic.org/) is VERY active and with Gamma Phi Beta's Headquarters there, I bet it wouldn't be too tough to find some ladies to write recs for you. |
I didn't go to school at DU, but I did just further north at UNC. The schools there (with the exception of CU) are not overly competitive like they are in the South. It doesn't hurt to get a rec, but know that they aren't typically required in the western states.

Hey thanks you guys! I'm still trying to decide whether sorority life is right for me or not, but perhaps that is what recruitment is for? Oh well, we'll see. Is there one particular thread with reccomendations info that you guys could suggest should I decide to get them?

Hey! So Recommendations do help with recruitment, it doesn't necessarily better ur chances but shows that someone who belongs to that sorority some were or did belong believes you would fit in well.
In Boulder, Colorado not to far from Denver, it just give us a heads up about a girl coming through that might really rock! But this doesnt give you an in to the house usually at least at my school, because you may not connect with the house you had a recommendation for, but as said above it can't hurt! |

I was referring to Colorado, not any other western state. Sorry if I misspoke. Most campuses in Colorado are fairly small when compared to other places. There are only a handful of organizations, and greek life itself is fairly small. |
