Ritual on web.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet and I apologize if it was.

However a friend recently told me of a website that among other things has various fraternity and sorority ritual books posted. I won't say the name of the site or whose's ritual is up out of respect. But what I want to know is what other people think of this? I find this incredibly distasteful myself, and am hoping my ritual stays off.

I don't feel strongly about it.

The desire to obtain rituals in that manner will increase the more people discuss those websites and express outrage.

The reason the rituals stay up there anyway is because the (Inter)National org sends an angry letter to ***.com, verifying it's legitimacy. It shows that the org cares about keeping the ritual a secret and the website sees secrets, especially heavily guarded ones, as info that NEEDS to be publicized.

I know we discussed this inside of another thread a while back and someone listed every org that had its ritual online.

But hey, there's a difference between just reading a ritual and actually going through it, right?

You have a very good point. I know from experience that reading my ritual didn't compare at all to actual taking part in it. The printed word doesn't do the ritual justice. And I suppose most fraternities don't have anything super secret in their rituals anyway.

Yeah. I mean, most every org has something like a secret phrase, or a hand sign, or the deeper meaning of their letters and/or symbols in their ritual but it's not like we have clues to Bin Laden's whereabouts or the inner workings of the CIA in our books.

So, is this you all's attempt at downplaying it after it was obviously serious enough to start a discussion about? LOL.

This comes up every few weeks or so...those rituals have been there for awhile now, and the world has yet to come to an end.

How serious does something have to be to start a discussion about?

DrPhil 07-12-2009 05:18 PM

Serious enough to notice and discuss.
