Interested In Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated
Hello!
Good Evening to the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. I have a mild situation and i would greatly appreciate some advice. Im currently a sophomore in college and the sorority life has always interested me. However, i based my choice on the stereotypes and not really doing much research like i should have. I was told that because of my tom-boyish, laid back attitude that i would fit in with Delta Sigma Theta. so i took it into consideration and did alot of research on them and got to know them and they are very nice. But as i did research i found out that their founders were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha and that their founding date was practically given to them. I was always interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha but i felt like i wouldnt fit in because i wasnt the "prissy" type that i thought all members were. so i spent most of my time with the deltas so now i feel as though my chances of joining the chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on my campus are ruined because i even went to a Delta interest meeting. But my dilemma is that im having trouble making a firm decision. I know what i can offer both sororities, but the main problem is that i started off interested in one sorority and now i would like to join another. did i ruin my chances?? *I have 3.4 GPA, I am very confident, and I volunteer in my free time. My life is very much so balanced between work, social life and my love life. But i feel like my credibility is shot out because of my prior interest in Delta Sigma Theta. |

i apologize. i wasnt trying to offend anyone. just wanted some help and i have made the efforts to research ALL sororities. but i was only interested in those two. no offense, but i dont really understand the idea of discretion.. why should wanting to serve the community with the help of other people such a secretive thing?

A good rule of thumb is that if you wouldn't say it to a Greek on your campus, it probably doesn't need to be posted on the interwebz. You wouldn't walk up to an AKA or DST and SAY what you just posted, so you probably should not have posted it here. |
none of the stereotypes are new. its a known fact that those are the stereotypes that people, not me, believe in. and i have a really serious question.. plz dont be offended... As i did my research i see that their main goal is to service the community.. so why is there so much "hate" between organizations if they all want to serve the same purpose? it may not be hate, but i mean the rivalry? i feel as thought there is absolutely nothing wrong with being interested in two sororities... my reason for wanting to join is to service the black community and to give back. and i believe both organizations do that. so why not be interested in more than one?

You could have simply stated that you were interested in XYZ sorority based on stereotypes and now you are interested in ABC sorority but everyone knows that you were first interested in XYZ sorority. What are your chances... You could insert any org and it would still be the same. |
