sorrority 411... can someone please help me out?
hi... im new to this web site ... but i joined because i have SO many questions about sorrorities. I am currently a senior in high school, and I feel that Greek life would be perfect for me. I am exteremely friendly, love to meet new people, have a deep feeling of sister hood with many of my friends, and i love the social aspect that would come with it. But I am clueless as to even how to approach getting into a sorrority. what are the best sorrorities out there, and how do i get started on my road to sisterhood? If someone could help me it would mean the world to me! Thanks,
love always kiki::confused: |

A great website done by the Panhellenic of the University of Washington....(Panhellenic is the governing body which oversees all sororities at each campus in North America...the word means "All Greek"") http://students.washington.edu/%7Epanhell/ Another very comprehensive website done by the University of Mississippi Panhellenic: http://www.olemiss.edu/orgs/panhellenic/ and the University of Texas Panhellenic: http://www.utexas.edu/depts/dos/gle/phc.htm That should keep you busy reading for a while! ;) When you get to your college, you will sign up for "Formal Recruitment' at the Panhellenic Office on your campus. (Depending on the school, you may have to do this a few months prior to school starting, so it pays to start investigating this in advance). Also, depending on how competitive Recruitment is on your campus, it is a wise idea to get a Recommedation Form to as many individual sororities as you can. A "Recommendation Form" is where an alumna sorority member (someone who has graduated from college) fills it out and basically attests that in their opinion, you would make a fine addition to the membership of her sorority. So start asking all of your Mom's friends, female teachers and basically any women you know that went to college, etc., if they pledged a sorority in college and ask them whether they would do a Rec. form for you? While Formal Recruitment (i.e. "Rush") is underway, you will meet ALL HOUSES on your campus in the first round. When that is done, you decide where you would like to go for a second look, (and the sororities also decide which young ladies they would like to invite back). And it goes on from there..... Study hard in your last year of high school and get high grades, as your GPA can be a deciding factor as to whether you will be invited back to some houses or not. Good Luck! |
Well, I am sure someone else has more in depth instructions, but I would say begin at the school you plan to attend. Look at the website and then go to the website of each chapter and then their national website. Look up Greek Life and look for Recruitment dates and fees.
Get an overview of what is out there and then go through Recruitment with an open heart. Good Luck! |
Do you know where you want to go to college? A lot of schools don't even have a Greek system... some have only local sororities... some have a handful of nationals... some have a lot. My advice: First figure out where you want to go to school. Academics is always the first priority. Once you've been accepted to a given college you're interested in attending, examine the Greek system, seek out the recommendations you need (if any - this varies from region to region) and go from there. And keep your grades up - resist "senioritis" - because if your college has rush at the start of freshman year, they will go by HS grades, and you want to be sure you qualify.
Good luck! :) |
My answer would be talk to Newbie! She has it all figured out as she was in your position before and now I believe that she is an EXPERT on sororities!

Like CutiePie already said you should check out this website
It will tell you about joining a sorority and also has links to the national websites!! That's the best way to find out about the different sororities and stuff!! Again you need to know what sororities the college you will attend has on campus. You definitly do need to keep your grades up though. Your GPA has a major factor in which houses would like you as a sister!! Hope this helps!! Nichole |
