Secrets

I'm a brother of a local fraternity and my fraternity does not allow anybody to enter our chapter room and even the entire home. We also keep our entire chapter operations a secret, meaning we do not tell anybody what we do as the brothers of the fraternity. While the other greek organizations on campus are different from us, they do allow GDI's into their chapter room and they do share with us about their chapter operations. That fact have me thinking if we're the only ones who do that? Wondering if there are any fraternities that are like us?

Serious question -- what does it matter? As long as you're taking care of business for your organization, that's really all that matters. How other organizations operate shouldn't make a difference.

If people are keeping secrets, wouldn't we not know if groups were operating this way?

You make it sound like you're assassins or something...

Sounds like a level omega inteligence security, or some stuff like that.

How can you convey the benefits of joining if you don't tell anyone what you do?

it is the mystique that gets the men wanting to join us. just like the skull and bones-- there are people wanting to join even though they do not know what the skulls do inside of the tomb. so, what i'm saying-- you have to build a really good mystique then the rest is history.

False.

If a guy comes to your rush events and asks what it's like to be in your fraternity, and you tell him "it's all about the mystique," he is going to drink your free beer and leave. For reals.

One question first. What exactly do you mean by chapter operations? For the part of the chapter room, I know quite a few organizations that consider the chapter room scared and won't show it to any nonbrother. Heck there are chapters of my fraternity that won't show it to anybody but chapter members. And as for the rest, I'm not sure what you mean. I mean my chapter we don't talk about what goes on in meetings of course. But I'm sure there are still somethings you do that aren't of a secretive nature. Like any community service events you might perform, or fundraisers. Or even any intrabrotherhood social events you might have. You aren't going to get anybody to want to join your fraternity if they have no idea what they would be doing as a brother. And as for Skull and Bones, that was different. They are considered an elite orginzation and many people want to be part of them because of that. But the complete secrecy is something in the past as of now.

So you never get laid at your house? (With anyone other than each other, that is)

Epic fail.

Except that Skull and Bones is an honor society, not a fraternity. S&B doesn't recruit new members as such and you can't try to join or seek membership. They pick who they want without any recruitment at such.

I was in a sorority, so maybe it's different. Our chapter room had a hidden door and we did not know where it was until we were initiated. We also didn't talk about certain chapter business with non-members. I don't see how you can grow and find new members with everything being so top secret.

Weird, I always thought of the chapter room as the room that had the most pride.. at least that's how our chapter rooms usually are... they're comfortable and they hold all of our awards and honors (and other cool/fun stuff sometimes).

But yeah, I'd never join an organization that I can't find any info about. Are you sure you're even an organization? :O

I believe they're talking more about ritual room.
