Well, it beats the Evergreen State Geoducks.

Words fail me.

To clarify though, it's the William & Mary Tribe. The nickname for the athletic teams (formerly the Indians) will not change -- they are just having come up with a mascot that will pass NCAA muster. I'll pray that they do better than a stalk of asparagus for a mascot.

reminds me too much of Roemel's Asparagus that was used during WWII to disable the gliders attempting to land at Normandy. . . .

Oh wow! I just checked out the schools website and saw that they're having a contest for the new mascot. I'm glad we at least got to keep calling ourselves the Fighting Illini after the school retired Chief Illiniwek. I'm not sure how I would feel about having to change the team name all together.

There were, however, some funny Facebook groups to suggest a new mascot after the Chief was retired. My favorites were "Drinkin' Lincoln" and the "Illini Dinosaurs".
