West Wing Episode
Did anyone else watch the West Wing episode last night? I thought it was awesome--it really cleared up some major stuff for me and not in a boring way. I am biased because I love love love that show, but I just wondered if anyone else saw it and what you thought. The critic on the today's show this morning said he thought it was to preachy

I thought it was great because the show was able to present all of the sides of the issue. We always want to beleive that only our way of thinking is right. I also am glad they gave a glimpse of what muslem and arab americans are having to deal with. hopfully it will help open some discussion amongst the people as a whole. Also I think it is important to realise(sP?) that not all arabs are muslem and not all muslems are arabs.

The West Wing is probably the most "Quality" show on TV at the moment.
What is truly remarkable is that this particular episode was written, cast, shot, edited, produced and aired in about a week. That's really amazing. This episode was exceptional -- and the profits from it will go to NYC charities. Well done. DeltAlum |
Do you know if they plan to re-air it anytime soon? I missed it.

I completely agree that The West Wing is beyond a great show. It is such a quality show and I thought last nights episode was very interesting. I loved it.
My favorite part by far was the very last thing spoken. When Leo said the the Muslim guy he was interogating and was very rude to, "Kid, way to be back at your desk." I loved it. I really did. FYI: for all those viewers of last nights episode who doesn't watch the show, the normal episodic shows are fabulous. Funny, witty, fast paced, demands a lot from the audience and moving. It's my favorite TV show by far and I highly recommend the show to anyone. |
Okay, you all know I loved the episode because I am the one that posted the thread, but the only thing I didn't like was how much of a jerk Leo was. I know that was part of the plot, but now it makes me not like him as much, and see him in a different light. I wish he would have apologized differently--I didn't think he did that good of a job at that.
But my favorite part was when Stockard Channing talked about Sarah and Abraham. I don't know if that story is the the complete reason why there is seperation in the middle east, but it made sense to me. I think thats why I liked the episode--it made everything simple |
I think Leo's "role" in that episode is to show how intelligent, sensitive, professional, hard working people can be so angry in the light of this tragedy that they simply can not see straight.
I am not condoning his actions/words AT ALL but I find that middle aged to older men are completely beside themselves over this attack. These are the men who fought in the 40's and 50's and later for our freedom and this group is trying to destroy it. I have found that older men are reacting to this worse than any other demographic I have come across. Again, I am not condoning his actions at all but I think he was trying to show how sometimes in the heat of extreme anger and extremely being frightened, you lose sight of rational thought. The more I think about it, the episode was so amazing. And, it was written, rehearsed and aired in about a week (so I read.) simply unheard of in today's television. Please keep liking Leo -- he's such a great guy!!! |
Thanks, Kimmy!! I had not thought of it that way! It was good to show how things happen in the heat of the moment and how even the most intelligent of men can lose their heads. And yes, I do think Aaron Sorkin and the cast of The West Wing are amazing!! To do that quality of an episode in one week is just breath taking

Plus, I adore Rizzo. She is my FAVORITE actress of all time. I simply love her. I have always said that when my life story comes to the big screen I will play myself and she will play my mother. I am a wannabe actress. (yeah right! In my dreams.)
I loved how she wanted to stay and talk to the kids after Jeb left. She is a class act. |
Ok, I know I'm going to be booed for this...but I was very disappointed. The scenes in the White House mess were too preachy for my taste. I thought they should have focused more on Leo, that was what I found to be the climax of the episode.
I'm a HUGE West Wing fan. This one just didn't do it for me. But major kudos to them for donating all the proceeds to the disaster relief funds. Delt Alum--you're right. It's amazing this episode was even created. Sorkin wrote it in 2 days, they shot it in 7, and did post-prod for 4 days working on a 24-hour basis. Their normal post-prod is 28 days. Unbelieveable. |
No boo's to you, GreekLawGirl! We all have our own opinions! I am just glad you like the show in general and now I have people to discuss it with. I lived in DC all last year and West Wing always makes me miss DC(even thought I HATED my roomates there and love where I am now so much better). I am sure there will be a show sometime this season that you love and I don't like--thats what makes good TV-when you care enough about it to talk about it with others!

As a poli sci major (nut case I guess) i must say that even the episodes of the West Wing that are deemed "boring, bad" I love. And although I though that show would be different, more fast paced, it was well done for being done in a week. And also, although Leo seemed to redeem himself at the end, I don't think it really made up for it. He is a high ranking official with the US Gove't and had buddy taken it badly (worse then he did) can you imagine the noise in the press room the next day?
In a 180, it was nice to hear about hte Sarah and Abraham story, since I am named after "Sarah from the bible" as my paretns told me growing up. Ironic that they gave me a biblical name and never once told me the story! |
Can someone refresh my memory as to the Sarah story in the bible? I forgot what it is already.
Thanks! |
