Hi! I am rushing this fall at Florida State... and I was just wondering, how competitive is the process? I have obtained recommendations for 4 of the the sororities, and I am a legacy to two (a double legacy to one!)

Also, what is the style of the sororities there? Are there some preppy, southern ones? I heard that a lot of them are "South Florida" types, which there is nothing wrong with, I would just be more at home in a more southern type of group.. if that makes any sense?

FSU recruitment is pretty competitive. Recs are good to have. If you do a search, you'll find plenty of threads about FSU.

Also, I'm going to be a little honest with you:

I'd think that every sorority at FSU has different types of people in them, so it would be a tad rude (and unfair) to stereotype them and rule some of them out based on whether they're "preppy" enough or not. With that type of attitude/idea going on, you might have a tough time. It's best to be open minded.

thank you for your response! and i'm sorry if the way i worded my question made me seem if i was close minded... i don't want to be. i know that you have to give each sorority an equal opportunity as i hope they will do for me.
:)!

I'm glad you understand what I'm trying to say.

If you do a search on this site for Florida State, you'll find a couple of threads about it.

Everything that KSUViolet said is correct. The chapters at FSU are large enough that they incorporate all different "types." It's a very strong panhellenic system with some very old chapters and some relatively new ones that are all very good. It takes some hard work (good grades, good behavior, work on getting recs) and an open mind but the results will be worth it for you if you maximize your options. Keep trying to get recs - check with teachers, friends parents, your parents coworkers. PenguinTrax has some great advice on here, since she lives in Tallahassee. Her babysitter went through recruitment a few years ago and she wrote a good thread about that experience. Good luck and GO NOLES!

Like KSUViolet said, rush at FSU is competitive, but im sure if you are yourself, get good recs, and go in with an open mind, you should be fine. Just like any other large southern university. Good luck!

ditto on the competitiveness of the recruitment at florida state. keep working on getting those recs.-you need them. if you are up there for summer school, mind your manners-you never know who is watching.

best wishes to you for a successful recruitment.

There are some chapters at FSU that are more "South Florida" than others, and some that are more traditional/Southern than others. But those should be obvious when you go through recruitment.

Every house is different, I can promise you that. However, every house is also worth joining, so just be sure to keep an open mind when going through. I know it sounds like a broken record, but I know plenty of girls who did not follow their heart and wish they would have =)
