Gamma Phi Gamma in School Daze

I have been wondering and Googling for a while and no one has given me a concrete answer to this question, so I will ask it now:

Is Gamma Phi Gamma in Spike Lee's "School Daze" a direct parody of Groove Phi Groove?

If not is it a direct parody of any other greek lettered organization?

It is a mixture of BGLO frats and a parody of BGLOs, in general.

Why would you think this? Groove is not a GLO and Gamma Phi Gamma is (atleast it is in the movie). I agree with DrPhil.

It's 20+ years ago and if you watch the movie carefully, it's abundantly clear what the 'parody' (or parallel if you prefer to see it that way) is.

Considering that the Gamma Rays were groupies and the other women (I hate the term jigaboo :mad: ) were unaffiliated, I don't see how either group could represent the oldest (AKA) and the largest (DST) female NPHC GLOs. :confused:

Well, somebody told you wrong! The Gamma Rays were clearly the auxillary group/little sisters of Gamma Phi Gamma and the "jigaboos" were just a group of girls who didn't like or get along with them.

And you won't get any responses to such a question.

To answer your question, No Gamma Phi Gamma is not suppose to be Groove Phi Groove. Actually the group that is "most like" Groove is Lawerance Fishborne's group(DAP) which is named Fellas Phi Fellas. Spike was said to be an enternal Swanxman. Swanxman is what we call our pledges. Its a Smoove, Suave man about town/campus. So that is the scoop on Groove Phi and Gamma Phi reference coming straight from a Groove. lol
