Eerie!!!!!!

I just visited my fraternity's national webpage, www.apo.org. and read an article entitled "The Work at Hand" by Patrick Burke, our National Executive Director. The article was focusing on the aftermath of the attack on our country, and the work that still needs to be done. What caught my attention was the concluding paragraph of the article:

Sixty years ago, reflecting on December 7, 1941, our then National President, H. Roe Bartle, 'The Chief' noted in the Torch & Trefoil:

"... Alpha Phi Omega has a greater responsibility now that ever before to give leadership and service. The work of our fraternity is more needed now that at any previous time in our history. We must utilize every opportunity to serve our nation in this crisis. Alpha Phi Omega can render great service because we already have a structure designed for service. No period of preparation is needed; no trial and error effort must be suffered. It is our responsibility to use our organization completely and at once, for the 'work at hand.'"

Those special words from 'The Chief' are just as true today.

BIGGER THAN LIFE

H Roe was not only big in size, but he was big in being a person!

He used to hold court in one of the local KC Hotels and you could hear his booming voice every where!

He got his nickname "Big Chief" in working with Boy Scouts and starting the "Tribe O Mico Say" at the Scouting Camp Named after him. It is So. of KC ,Mo. in the Western part.

He was instrumental in getting the Athletics (MLB) and the KC Cheifs of the old AFL from Dallas to come here.

It was always a true pleasure to talk with Giant of a man as a kid who sat in awe.

When he was at the camp he was nothng but a big kid himself always teaching, listening, and answering questions!:) :)
