New Chapter Creating Families
In addition to Phi Mu, I am involved in a foreign service sorority at my school. We just got it started last semester and are working on ideas for growing the group. One of the other girls on Eboard just sent an email talking about starting a big/little program for next year. My question is, how do you start families? They want to have family groups, so do you normally just arbitrarily group girls together or do you let groups chose themselves? Or do you just let girls who want littles take them and eventually "families" will form? We have 26 initiated sisters. If anyone has recently started a chapter or has any advice, that would be great. My Phi Mu chapter has been around for quite some time, so no one really knows any good ways to go about it.

when i was the general advisor to a zta colony, the girls were evenly divided(or as close as could be to even) into "founders groups"-zta had 9 founders so there were 9 groups. these groups served the same purpose as temporary big sisters, which many sororities have before the new member receives her permanent big sister. later in the colony process, the colonists all put their names into a hat and drew a name out to find out who their "crown" sister would be.
after the colony became a chapter and held their first formal recruitment, the chapter functioned as a more traditional chapter, with initiated members as big sisters and new members as the littles. from there , families within the chapter began to grow. |
I was a founding sister of my chapter. In our first semester, our TLC's assigned us twins or triplets, similar to the manner bigs and littles are assigned. If it worked, great! If not, we slowly reassembled ourselves into other families as we began to get our own littles.

PhiMu_Lindz, are you in Delta Phi Epsilon Professional Foreign Service Sorority? I don't know if your sisters from Georgetown have a big/little or family tree program, but I am sure many of them must be around this summer.
