What Did You Learn Today...
As long as you are learning, you are growing.
Today I learned that often, with big presses, if author's of color don't sell a minimum of copies in the first six weeks, their books are pulled from the shelves. So, what have you learned today? |
I learned that I can volunteer my efforts to fixing healthcare with this Presidential administration by hosting a Health Care Organizing Kickoff Event in my area.
|
Unfortunately, I learn this anew every day.
Folks do too much on the internet. Here's the thing. No one cares. Really. No one. Folks should care enough about themselves to maintain some level of privacy. Unfortunately, they don't, and I often am the unwilling victim of their lack of discretion. |
I learned that AR is one of 4 states to ban smiling in id photos. Facial recognition software has difficulty matching two photos of the same person if the expressions differ. It's supposed to help combat identity theft and fraud.

Interesting.

Now THAT is interesting!! I love to pose for my ID! I look like a monkey when I don't smile!! :( J/K

To this, I was travelling internationally recently, and when they had us go through customs, we could not smile as we walked through. I was looking for cameras, because I thought it may have something to do with this. I just renewed my passport this year. I smiled in my photo too. :shrugging: Yesterday, I learned that diasporic studies is a tradition of discourse that has been around for almost forty years in relation to African American Studies. I was not aware that the tradition was that deep. |
I learned that we as African-Americans were really affected by the death of Michael Jackson walking thru 125th St in Harlem. The celebration and sadness could be seen on every face.
|
:mad:I learned that just because someone wasn't in your class, family, or someone you grew up with, doesn't mean that their passing won't effect you. I took Michael's passing so hard because he WAS my childhood. Everyday, I am reminded of my age (bills, slower metabolism, inability to eat "the foods I used to") and his death just really solidified the fact that I'm not a kid anymore. I love you Michael! May the Lord Bless and Keep you as well as protect your family. You're all in my prayers.
|
with the death of Michael, I've learned to just be your authentic self.

Learned today what a zombie computer is. I had been hearing the term in relation to the cyber attacks, but did not know what it meant.
Apparently, a zombie computer can be any computer that has been installed with software that alters the operating system and then lies in wait for commands from a remote system. So that system can be used to send spam or hack other systems without the owners even being aware. The guy on NPR was an expert from Purdue. Interesting info. |
Today I learned that no matter how old you get, there will always be people who are more willing to make careless mistakes and waste time & money rather than simply ask for help when they don't understand something.
|
Not today, but yesterday I learned the meaning of occupational therapy, which is essentially intensive rehabilitation of motor skills and related appendages. (I always thought that it was some sort of work-related physical therapy :o :) ). Unfortunately, I regret that circumstances necessitated this new bit of knowledge
|
today i learned about a dance called the lion king. it pissed me off that dude was dancing in the parking lot in the middle of the day instead of getting a job or doing something useful with his life.
|
Today I learned that if you win the Powerball, the lottery commission in your state (unless you live in Delaware, Kansas, or North Dakota) is required by law to release your name and your city (but NOT your address) to anyone who asks. Scary!
