Question

I am wondering is there a possibility to deactivate a cpc sorority to join a nalfo sorority?

knight_shadow 05-03-2009 03:32 PM

It's not forbidden by NALFO bylaws, but most of the NALFO sororities won't take dropees.

I am figuring you mean "NPC" sorority...most NALFO sororities would not accept a person who is already a member of another sorority. But who knows? Lately, I've seen a lot of strange things happen...

Yea NPC, I just have been bogged down with so much CPC stuff lately that I slipped thanks for catching that!

Are you thinking of leaving your sorority to try to join a NALFO organization? If so, why didn't you do research on the NALFO groups before going through recruitment for NPC?

I was in a whirlwind during rush week and ended up blind when going through it all. I looked into NALFO groups and I had 2 as a choice but I got swept up with the sorority im in because I was pumped with alot of stuff that seemed great, but now that i'm sitting here I should have waited to go further with those 2 choices instead of going to one informational for both. I felt I was in the right place but I realize i'm not. I thought i would have to just readjust but the house im in is not my house. I am not unloyal it is just in all not right for me. Its just been a big thought in my mind about being in a NALFO group. I really look at it and I see that is where I belong, but I feel I screwed myself over with my impatiences and the appeal of the house I joined. I don't really fit in with the NPC/IFC crowds and I just feel so wrong being here.

Sorry to swerve into your lanes, however there are all kinds of past posts of switching or choosing one group over another and I really have a problem with people who bash XYZ organization because of PDQ reasons, then they get into EFG organization and realize it is not something they feel uncomfortable with...

What makes it painful is that there was no convincing beforehand that really reviewing your reasons of joining EFG vs. XYZ--when it needs to be about how one adds to EFG and how EFG adds to that person...

Buyer's remorse is not in operation here with any GLO and is resented. IMHO, grow up because you made an ADULT decision--you made your bed, now you need to lie in it...

But, oh well... Joining any organization ought not be a "hard sell" in my opinion--you are lucky an bid/invitation was extended to you...

You have two choices:

1. Try to make the best of your experience in your NPC sorority. I am guessing that this is your first year of college, so you haven't given it much of a chance yet. If there are things you don't like about it, start changing things.

2. I believe that you can become "inactive" in NPC sororities. If you really don't want to continue after you've given it a chance, then just go inactive but don't try to join another sorority. Like I said before, most NALFO sororities will not consider a woman who is already an initiated member of another sorority.

...and whatever you do, for Pete's sake, please don't start "talking smack" about the NALFO sororities on your campus. For some reason, girls with "buyer's remorse" (as AKA Monet stated) tend to start acting unprofessionally towards the Latina sororities. Perhaps it makes them feel better in some way, but I've seen it happen way too many times. :(

Great advice! Unfortunately, you already picked your sorority. It's too late to decide that it's not for you if you've already been initiated. Now it's time to find your place or MAKE your place in that group. If you can't do that, sorority membership may not be for you. No group will necessarily give you what you are looking for...it's funny how the green grass on the other side of the fence doesn't look so green when you finally get on it.
