deferred rush

Sounds like an odd thing for a high school senior to be curious about.

Pros:
1. PNMs are judged on GPA more fairly. At many schools, chapters make cuts based on high school GPA, and with academically competitve schools, it can really be a matter of splitting hairs because everyone has a high HS GPA to be admitted to the University. Having a semester to prove yourself academically "resorts" everyone. How many times have you seen someone breeze through HS and crash in college or just barely get in to the college and do better in college?
2. While it may be true that fewer women will join, I believe retention across the board is better (though I don't have numbers or anything to prove that claim or basis for comparison, just my guess). I think there would be fewer PNMs who are just signing up because everyone else is doing it, as in, you've had a semester to consider the idea, so I'm thinking more people who go through are serious about it.
3. You have a semester to interact with sorority women in an authentic way. I am pretty sure most schools allow normal friendly contact between sorority members and PNMs.

Cons:
1. Some women who would make great members get involved in other things their first semester and decide they don't have time for a sorority.
2. There is a whole semester for PNMs' heads to be filled with talk of tiers and/or stereotypes.
