A Woman's Revenge

Is this play coming to anyone else's area, or has anyone seen it yet?

The cast includes Shirley Murdock, Alexander O'Neal, and... El DeBarge (if you've posted here long enough, you know that I'm a die hard Debarge fan). Anyway, it's coming here OCt 26th & 27th. I 'll update everyone later after I see it.

Recently, "When A Woman's Fed Up" was here. I think Shirley was one of the featured actresses. I haven't heard about this one.

I haven't been to any of these plays before. I've heard that many of the "gospel" stage plays, sometimes are FAR from "gospel".

Has anyone ever attended a gospel stage play? If so, what was your experience?

Several

I've gone to several over the last decade, and IMHO they are getting worse and worse. The writing is terrible and the acting and singing isn't that much better. Someone writes a screenplay, get some old singers or actors who havn't worked in years, then they hit the road. I go because I like the arts, and hope that they would get better, but they never do.
Now they know that black people will spend the money, so I suggest they give us quality performances for our money. Also, who's the guy who has made all the "BEAUTY SHOP" plays, well I definitely stay clear of his work, terrible.
I've found some local black play houses in Chicago, IMHO that's where the real talent lies, you will see the best plays at those.

I haven't been to one since I was a teenager ("Mama I Want to Sing") and that was only because the leading character was the sister of a classmate.

Hopefully, it will be good.

The most recent one that I saw was Woman, Thou Art Loosed. That was the BEST gospel play that I have EVER seen!!!! It was REALLY good!!

I agree wholeheartedly. I saw "Been There, Done That" with Greg Mathis and it was horrible. The story line was weak and the actors just went for a bunch of cheap laughs. The only thing that I can say is that the singing was excellent. Fred Hammond and his choir were the singing actors in the play and they are really talented.

His name is LaVann (sp?) Hawkins and his plays are horrible. He had "Beauty Shop" and "Beauty Shop II" and Beauty Shop III" Then, I guess he figured that he couldn't make any more money in the beauty shop, so he moved the play to the "Laundromat" It's funny because, as I write this, I can still hear the readio commercials for all of this man's plays.
