Family and or New Member class names
 

Our chapter is thinking about doing family names and/or pledge class names, and I was wondering if there are any alpha xi's out there that already do this? I would love to hear some examples so we can get some ideas ( not steal, of course) ....

My Chapter, Iota Mu, has family names. It is nothing formal, some of the original members in the family just combined last names to make something of it. I came up with LBS for my family which was Lindsay, Bonnie, Steph. But then we also have family meanings and secrets behind it. So, once the new member is initiated into the chapter then we share our "family secrets" with her also.

And the greatest part of the family secrets just like telephone they have gotten mixed up and translated incorrectly over the years (only 5) so when we hear them repeated we all just shake our head.

Our new member classes have sort of fallen into a name. just something that happened during the New member period that sort of stuck and they decided to give themselves that name. Usually you had to be there for it to make any sense. And it isn't used often, maybe jsut to gather the crowd.

At my chapter we have family names, I'm in the tiger family (almost every single gift we get from our bigs has tiger print on it) there's also the zebra fam, the argyle fam, and a couple others that i forget (i'll have to pay extra attention). I've also heard from friends that are a xi d's at other schools that some groups do combined last names and change them as people come and go.

We had all sorts of family names in my chapter. One of my favorites was the "spice" chapter. All the family members had spices that fit with their personalities... paprika, nutmeg, etc.

We also had the "nut" family and a family based on fun, international cities.

My chapter had family names. We had the Rose, Plaid, Sunflower, Star, and Elite and Prestigious family.

When I pledged AXiD, our pledge class names followed the Greek letter alphabet. We were the Lambdas.

My new member class came up with our own class name, Sigma Beta, and it stands for something, but that's a secret among us :) It's sort of like TFJ but just for us!

As far as family names go, we don't have them in our chapter :(

Our pledge classes go along the alphabet. Mine was Alpha Psi and the one after me was Alpha Omega. Next year we will start over with Beta!

Family Names
 

We have family names too!!
My original family name was "The Bombshells"...
Then when I was initiated it was changed to "Wild Things"...

Now that a lot of girls have graduated, we have split into 3 different families... We have the "Glam Fam" which also is called the "Unique Fam", "Wild Things", and "Bombshells" (I re-instated it!)...

Other families in the chapter included "Princess", "Camo", "Classy", and "Rockstar"... There are a LOT more, but I can't remember them all!

My chapter has family names, I'm in the Daisy family, which actually gave birth to the more generic Flower family when it got too big, and the Butterfly family also split off from Daisy. We also have a group of families descended from the Rabbit family, including Special Rabbits and Teddy Rabbits. There was also a Diva family (extinct in the current chapter). Knowing your family tree/history is a big deal within the Gamma Tau chapter, and my Big made me a HUGE Daisy Family Tree poster, which I have updated and plan to pass on to my future Little. The families tend to develop a reputation for being certain ways - the Flower family is "classy" and "put-together", and Daisies are the "CraXi Daisies" and must take an obligatory "wacky" picture whenever we're all together!
