PR
Hi there,
I'm the newest Public Relations chair for my sorority and i've been pretty unhappy about how the job has been done so far. All that has really been done with the position is that we've sent out cards to fraternities when they've initiated new members. I really want this to be a good year for us (as we were once the number one sorority but we are slowly beginning to fall behind). What are some cool ideas i could do to spice up this position and change our image in the greek community? thanks for whoever is able to help out! |
What were some of the public relations activities or sponsorships you all have done in the past that were beneficial to your sorority? What are some activities around campus that seem to spark attention in your school? These are some of the questions that you can ask yourself. I am sorry I do not have more information, but these two questions immediately popped into my hippocampus as I read your post (lol)

PR was my first exec position and i had to hit the ground running. the previous exec didnt leave me with anything so i pretty much had to create our PR program. The place i started with was philanthropy. We participated in everything philo we were invited to, and even a few that we weren't initially invited to. easiest way to get your name out there is to participate in other greeks events.
and we'd do little things like heart attacks and serenades just to make an impression on individual chapters. just a few little things to start to get your feet wet and your name out there. |
Before finals, send out Good Luck "treats" to the other chapters (houses) on campus. How big is your Greek System? My campus was small so we were able to send out blow pops to the other sororities. (I can't remember if we did fraternities too)
For Valentine's day we did Valentine Grams, just like a lot of high schools do. We set up a booth and sold the cards for $1. For Greeks, we got the card back from them so that we could deliver them. For non-Greeks, they got the flower at the same time they bought the card. Everyone likes receiving flowers, especially girls, so this was a really good fundraiser. It got our name out as well as our philanthropy. What is your philanthropy? You could check with them and see if they have those little posts that someone could sponsor for a dollar and sign someone's name on them. Check with your university and see where you could post them up. It will raise awareness for that philanthropy as well as give good PR to your organization. (I'm thinking of something like the CMN balloons where you write your name at the bottom) Is there a bulletin board somewhere on campus? Reserve it for however long you can and decorate it, showcasing the positive things about your organization. I could go on and on with so many more ideas but unfortunately I don't have the time lol but I'll post later with more ideas. |
We've done cookies and/or cards for holidays, we participate in all the other philanthropy events, advertise our own events heavily, and give points for wearing jerseys around, to increase visibility. I also think a good website is beneficial, and occasional events like a professor appreciation banquet or something.
