Proper rushing attire

What is the appropriate footwear for rushing? It's really hot here in Georgia, especially in August, so I was thinking maybe sandals. But are flats more appropriate? Are we supposed to wear heels? And also, are there any kinds of rules where you shouldn't have bare shoulders?

Every school is a bit different, so your best bet would be to check with your school's Panhellenic Council. Many schools include photos of suggested attire for each day of recruitment in their rush booklets. This may even be on the recruitment information website.

:)

Thank you so much! The Panhellenic Council has a whole outline about Recruitment attire. But, will the active sisters think it's weird to wear sandals instead of flats? And I read that pearls and other classic jewelry is preferable but is it okay to wear more contemporary-type jewelry?

Pearls are the choice of a proper Southern woman.

Since you are a MAN and have (probably) never worn pearls in your life, you might want to stay out of this. Just so you know, pearls are beloved by women everywhere, not just the south. But I know plenty southern women who also love other types of jewelry. It's a little boring to wear the same thing every day, you know.

A unique piece of jewelry can help make you memorable (but is of course no substitute for polished conversation skills).

That should be covered in the recruitment guide. There isn't any sort of ritual during rush where you the rushees have to worry about it if that was what you were thinking. :)

But other than that - if you have big boobs don't wear strapless or spaghetti straps.

Please wear appropriate lingerie for whatever you wear on top. Bra straps showing are the height of tacky - try everything on before rush. If a strap peeks out even a little bit, wear a racerback or strapless bra.

This.

The right underpinnings really do make a difference between looking good and looking fantastic.

I think this would depend a great deal on your school's culture. If you do wear sandals, definitely go with something contemporary and cute (not Birkenstocks, for example) and get a pedicure beforehand.

Flats...are you concerned about sore feet? I know of girls who wore nice flip-flops between houses and changed into heels before they entered parties so they could spare their feet while not compromising their overall look.
