Joining while serving
 

I really don't know where to start so I guess I'll start with this question:

Does anyone know of an active duty armed forces male or female who has joined and NPHC fraternity or sorority while stationed and attending school? I just want to know if it's possible.

One of the Alums from my chapter was in the Marines while he was active.

He wasn't on full active duty though, he was in the Marines version of the reserves.

Being active military isn't the issue. Being a full time student and getting to know members while working full time is the issue. You'll have to figure out how you can support the chapter, excel in school, be involved in the community, and work full time. It won't be easy. Even with all of that, you may or may not be chosen for membership. There's always the option of focusing on your degree first, and attempting to pursue membership later.

My brother's bestman was president of KAPsi in college and a member of ROTC. He served in the DMZ and TX before leaving the army. But ROTC is different from active duty.

My little sister is active duty in the military, a mom of 2, a wife, a full time student (she is doing the program though the military) and pledged our sorority last fall....it's doable. We aren't an NPHC sorority, but we are multicultural, and we do "secret pledging" (meaning...no one knows who pledges until they come out to the public)

I know of people on reserve duty that were members of fraternities, but not active duty...

One of my brothers is about to go on active duty in the Marines.
