I know I'm swerving, but why is this a bad question?

Is it a "if it's not on the national website we're not telling you here" kind of thing?

Senusret I 03-09-2009 07:53 PM

Asking when ABC or XYZ is having a line is generally in bad form. It lacks discretion and it's a tad presumptuous. (Think: If you have to ask, then you're not doing enough to be noticed by the members.)

The original poster could (very easily) email the national headquarters of Kappa or speak with the Student affairs, student organizations, or Greek life people at FAMU (whichever they have or is most appropriate).

I knew a-plenty guys at Howard who wanted to be Kappas and swore they were going to be on the next line.... well they picked 44 guys and not a single person I knew was on that line.

Anyway.... yeah, it's mostly a bad question to me because he could easily have his answer by using his own resources.

Are you interested in SGRho?

DrPhil 03-09-2009 08:30 PM

So famu2008 is asking these silly questions. He or she is either doing "homeworking assignments" or crappy aspirant research.

Ooooh. Sometimes I forget that the NPHC stuff is more subtle in terms of how and what kind of interest you are supposed to show.

I know that NPC groups aren't necessarily like NPCs, but I think we want everyone to seem interested in being a member as long as there's no presumption that you'll actually get a bid.

ETA: Now that I think about it, I've from a big greek system on a big campus. Maybe at smaller campuses, the NPCs would find a lot of interest creepy too. At a really big campus, you kind of assume there could be good members you might not know about, and even if you thought your group wasn't for them, the way we do recruitment, you'd feel like there was probably a group for them.

Probably.

But I can imagine situations where someone would want to know something like that but wasn't in those categories.

Granted none of them are situations that are really good reasons for Kappas to give an answer, like another group wondering, etc.
