Passing of Lucius Young
Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity and friends of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity:
The National Executive Director of Alpha Phi Omega has shared with us news of the passing of LTC (Ret.) Lucius E. Young, Past National President of Alpha Phi Omega (1972-74). He was also the first, and to date the only African American Brother of APO to hold that office. Col. Young held the office of National Vice President from 1970-72). He was awarded the National Distinguished Service Award (DSK) in 1974 and was the Fall 1976 National Pledgeclass Namesake. The Maude Young Award was created in honor of and named for his first wife -- it may be awarded to spouses of brothers who are not themselves initiates in recognition of their service to the fraternity. Col. Young was a co-founding brother of the Zeta Phi Chapter at Howard University where he served as a Professor of Military Science. He was also an initiate of the Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Fortunate...
I consider myself fortunate to have met Col. Young. A great brother of Alpha Phi Omega.

Sadly, not the only APO'er lost.
Brother William Woods, initially of the Kappa Psi chapter at NC A&T and most recently a rechartering Advisor at Upsilon Kappa at Saint Augustine's College, passed away unexpectedly at the CIAA Conference this weekend.
