SMU gpa requirements

I was wondering if SMU sororities looked at your high school gpa? If so, is there a minimum high school gpa needed in order to rush?

Thanks!! I'm so excited to rush next year!:)

Most, if not all, universities have some sort of GPA requirement for any extra-cirricular activity, including Greek life. Your best bet for SMU is to check the student life portion of their website. Generally the better your HS GPA is the better chance of joining any college organization.

1. What are the requirements for joining a Panhellenic sorority? The SMU Panhellenic Association's minimum requirements for joining a sorority are:

- Complete at least 12 units with a 2.5 GPA in the semester prior to joining
- Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must not be on disciplinary probation or higher any point during the semester prior to recruitment
- Must register online with the SMU Panhellenic Association. It is not necessary to register with your hometown Alumnae Panhellenic. These groups may assist with the recommendation process but not the registration process.
While the SMU Panhellenic site does not specifically ask for HS GPA, it may come up when alums complete rec forms. Many RIFs I've seen do ask for HS GPA. Just because a 2.5 first semester GPA is the minimum doesn't mean you'll find a whole lot of PNMs with the bare minimum.

Contact your Greek Life office if you want more detailed info.

SMU has deferred recruitment, so I highly doubt that chapters care about high school GPA. The college GPA is probably what they care about. Paging SMUAlphaChi!

Sororities will be looking at your GPA from the first semester. I honestly don't know if we even get information regarding your HS grades.

The minimum GPA is 2.5, but many sororities have their own minimum GPA. I would recommend that you shoot to get a 3.3 or above. Girls with a 3.5-4.0 probably have the best chances, though you'll be able to find your home even if you don't make that high of a GPA. However, GPA does make a big difference!!! SMU has a lot of resources to make getting a high GPA your first semester possible -- check out the learning center for tutoring, and go to your professors' office hours!!!

PM me if you have any questions about recruitment or SMU in general. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have!!! :)

and individual chapters might have a higher "cut" gpa than the one required by Panhel to go thru recruitment

grades matter
