cabinet members' Greek affiliation
The President's final nominee for a cabinet position is Kathleen Sebelius who attended Trinity University in Washington D.C., which has no Greek life. The only nominee who lists a Greek membership is Agriculture Secrtary Tom Vilsack, a Delta Upsilon from Hamilton College.
Others who could possibly be Greeks are: Tim Geithner, Dartmouth; Robert Gates, William & Mary; Eric Holder, Columbia; Ken Salazar, Colorado College; Hilda Solis, Cal Poly., Pomona; Ray Lahood, Bradley; Steven Chu, U. Rochester; and Janet Napolitano, Santa Clara. |
Robert Gates is APO according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_..._and_education)
|
While not on the Cabinet itself, the nominee for the Cabinet-level office of United States Trade Representative is Ron Kirk, who apparently joined a local at Austin College called Chi Delta Eta.
|
Robert Gates' wife Rebecca is a Gamma Phi Beta from Washington State University.
|
I found some sources that list Eric Holder as a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. ??? Haven't been able to find any other GLO connections with the others.
|
Robert Gates is an Alpha Phi Omega brother, as is Melody Barnes (Director of the Domestic Policy Council - not Cabinet but important).
Hillary Clinton is an honorary APO Brother. And of course we can't forget First Lady Michelle Obama - also an APO Brother. :D |
Slight hijack
Did anything come of the Michelle Obama/AKA discussion?
|
Timothy Geithner was not a member of a GLO at Dartmouth.

As previously discussed, I don't think Mrs.Obama had a full understanding of what the offer of membership meant. Does anyone know if she was offered membership in a sorority as an undergraduate? Were there not both NPHC and NPC groups on campus?
